Using mstsc.exe to connect directly to the Remote Dektop Service 2(RDS) 2012

0
0

Hi All,

Wondering if anyone can shed some lights here.  I am setting up the following RDS Farm. Windows Server 2012 R2  (simple farm configuration)

Server 1 = RD Connection Broker, RD Web Access

Server2 = RD Session Host #1

Server3 = RD Session Host #2

Let say I am not using the RDWeb.    I want to connect to the RDSH Servers using mstsc.exe (RDP Client), I will have to go through RDCB which manages all the connections but I am getting an error when I connect to it - "The connection was denied because the user account is not authorized for remote login.".   I think I can getting this error because mstsc thinks that I am starting the TS session directly on RDCB

I did a lot of research on the net, and I create an rdpfarm.RDP file with the following configuration..

full address:s:MGMT.ABC.COM
workspace id:s:MGMT.ABC.COM
use redirection server name:i:1
loadbalanceinfo:s:tsv://MS Terminal Services Plugin.1.RemoteApp_Collection

As soon as I start the connection, I get this error:

Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because the Connection Broker couldn't validate the settings specified in your RDP file.  Contacy your network administrator for assistance.

I have also saved a RDP file from mstsc.exe and made the above changes but no luck still.  Same error.

Please comment...  THanks.

Problem to spawn a console application

0
0
Hi,

I'm trying to run an application that starts a console application as part of a functionality through RDS RemoteApp in a Win 2008 R2 server.
Basically, the main app creates a hidden console application process (the user doesn't see the console window) that runs in a job, and communicates with it though named pipes.
The console app writes a pipe and the main app reads from it to then show data to the user.

I have a regular local user and an administrator user account in the server (using workgroup, not domain) where the main app is installed (Win 2008 R2).
The application is working ok when logging directly to both local users on the server.
When I try to use the published app from another PC (web access), it is started ok, but I have "Access is denied" error everytime the console app needs to be launched.

Do I need to set special permissions/rights in Win 2008 R2 to avoid such error?

Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.

[2008 R2][Licensing Server] Fails to issue license to RDS Host

0

Hi,

I'm trying to troubleshoot a mysterious licensing error. The Scenario:

Server:
Licensing Server: 2008 R2
RDS Hosts: 12x 2008 R2 (Citrix XenApp 6.5), 6x 2003 (Citrix Presentation Server 4.5)

Licenses:
Volume License 2003: 275 Total, 256 Available, 19 Assigned
Volume License 2008/R2: 275 Total, 121 Available, 154 Assigned
Volume License 2008/R2: 52 Total, 0 Available, 52 Assigned

All licenses are per Device. All Servers are verified to be configured for "per Device" licensing.

The Problem:
The Licensing Server logs a flood of Id 21 events, stating that it does not have addition "per Device" licenses available for assignment to a 2008 R2 RDS Host. This issue is not isolated to one RDS Host - all of them are logged as having this issue.

Now how can that be? It's as if the Licensing server did not recognize the first 2008/R2 volume license (However, if itdidn't recognize those, wouldn't all clients with a license from that volume license fail to connect / receive temporary licenses?).

Cheers and thanks for any insights,
Fred

Hello,

when does Microsoft update the TLS version of RDP? This 1.0 is ancient and not really secure any more.

Atleast 1.2 would be nice.

virtual terminal server not communication properly with virutal domain controler

I have a virtual domain controler running on vmware  running server 2011 sbs and another vm running 2k8r2 term server. Both are on the same subnet and dns is set properly.  The terminal server cant resolve the dc for authentication but not get group policy. If I try to ping the dc by name I can not. I can ping by ip. If I do an nslookup from the term serve on the domain I can resolve it back to the correct ip of the dc. I tried flushing the dns and rebinding the dns with no luck. I made a "copy" of the vm and on that copy removed it from the domain and tried to add it back with no luck. I do not have a snap shot from before this began to role back to.Also I tried editing the host file with no luck. My next thought is to build a new virtual macien and install 2k8 and terminal server licensing from scratch but i would prefetr to avoid that. Any help would be appreciated.

Remote App Saving Locally, how to make it easier for user

0

Hello, We are in the middle of testing out the Remote App feature in RDS on a Windows 2012 R2 Server.  Seems to work fine except we need to have the ability for the user to save to there local Desktop or My Docs on the computer they are connecting from.  Granted we can do this but its not intuitive for the user.  They have to goto the the redirected c drive, then goto the User folder, choose there user, then Desktop or Documents.  So there is allot of extra steps for them.

We mainly want to use this for Word and Excel, I forget if its Office 2013 or 2010 at the moment, not sure if that matters.

Is there a way to make this easier for them? such as setting up a policy to point them automatically to there local desktop or Documents folder?

Or is RDS remote App really not the right product for this kind of thing?

Thanks

Every Windows Server Bug - after exceeded 65536 Session ID

Every Windows Server (incl 10) has rdp-tcp listener with ID 65536.
What happens if we reach and exceed this ID?
I tested it on two different servers.

So, after exceeding what we have:

  • After starting RDP Client it offers to enter credentials (as always).
But after entering its remote window opens with empty fileds: User and Password.
And need to reenter credentials one more time.
  • Also, if I have rdp file with saved credentials it doesn't work.
After starting it remote window opens with empty fileds: User and Password too.

When entering fixed event:

The only utility TSSessions.exe displaying it:

       Window Station Name  : RDP-Tcp#5

The specified session cannot be found. (Error # 7022 = 0x00001b6e)

The only way to reset the counter is restart server (.

Unable to connect using RDP after installing desktop experience Server 2012 R2

We have a 2012 R2 server that we use as OpenVPN server and as a Steppingstone.

For some purpose I thought I needed the desktop Experience feauture, however after enabling I am unable to connect through RDP after that.OpenVPN works fine, the tunnel is created and routes are forwarded to my clients (windows 8.1) but RDP is not working at all. I removed the desktop experience feature to no avail. The server is virtual (on ESX I suppose) and luckily we had teamviewer unattended setup so I can still reach it.

Anyone an idea on how to solve this??

- I disabled firewall

- Also enabled firewall and checked for correct rules.

- Checked on the RDP services, everything is up fine.

- Rebooted server

- Checked external firewall for changes

- Checked OpenVPN loggings

- Keyboard settings are fine

- checked for filesystem errors: none

- RDP out works fine

- Server is not in a domain and RDP is configured to allow all users (network level User authentication not needed)

- Tried as administrator as well as a user with admin rights

idle time question

idle session limit is set to 1 hour.

Should RemoteApp program's window close after 1 hour that user not touches an open app?

In my case the app not closes.

Logoff hangs - Windows Search service appears to have lock on file

0

Hi all,

We've been experiencing an issue with only one of our RDP hosts (2012R2) where a user's logoff hangs and never completes. If I go into Task Manager and the Users tab I see a blank user listed. After much tbshooting we've found that the Windows Search service is at fault and when we stop the service the logoff completes successfully.

We are using User Profile Disks and it appears to me that deep into the logoff process the system (I think) is attempting to unmount the UPD but it can't because the Windows Search service as some file locked that its attempting to index (possibly the user's Exchange ost file).

When I first attempt to stop the Windows Search service I get an error message that the service is not responding. A second attempt to stop it is normally successful. After that it appears the user's UPD gets unmounted successfully.

Any suggested fixes here or others experiencing similar issue?

Thanks, David

RemoteApp Copy/Paste issues

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me with an issue. Our Company runs a 2008R2 Server Standard, That hosts an In-house app Via Remote app.

A few of our Clients have lost the ability to Copy from a Local and Paste into our Application.

I have tried Resetting the rpdclip.exe from the process tree, Logging them off and then getting them to re-connect to the program.

This lasts a few minutes then stops working.

I've even ran the basic command to clear their clipboard.

All users have "Clipboard" selected.

At this point I have exhausted all methods, and any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Change DPI scaling inside RDP session (2008 R2 / 2012 R2)

0
0

We have two servers:

  • Server 2012 R2 RDS
  • Server 2008 R2 RDS

Users are constantly reporting being unable to change their screen resolution. After some digging, the reason they're trying to change the resolution is because their text is too small to see. DPI scaling is obviously the answer, but when users go into the setting it is greyed out and cannot be changed.

Now, for Server 2008 R2, I've found this link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2726399/en-us

Does this hotfix actually do what I suspect/hope/blindly-pray it will do? Does it re-enable the DPI options if connected via RDP? The article doesn't actually say what it does, just that it will "fix" the issue.

Next, for Server 2012 R2, I've found this link:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2012/06/13/remote-desktop-services-what-s-new-in-windows-server-2012-release-candidate.aspx

The second last section mentions "Support for Changing DPI in Remote Sessoins." Having logged into this RDS server, this is not the case, the setting is greyed out just like in Server 2008 R2.

  1. What needs to be done to get this working on both platforms? My end result is I want users to log in and be able to go into the preferences, move the DPI slider to their desired text size and fix their problem without resorting to workarounds like decreasing the resolution of their local PC to increase the apparent size of text.
  2. If this isn't possible, is there a way to configure RDS to run at a lower resolution permanently but to stretch to fit any screen resolution? Right now, if you drop the resolution on an RDP session, it just takes up part of the user's screen. In the newest RDP clients, I notice the Smart Sizing option, but it apparently isn't "smart" enough to stretch higher than the base resolution of the session.

I've looked through literally years of forum posts and articles and nothing seems to point at a user-friendly fix such as take the slider, choose your size, done.

Server 2012 R2 TS CAL's are installed but are not being issued

I have a very simple Server 2012 R2 set-up. Just want 5 users to log in on a per user basis.
The same server is the session host and licensing server.

The Users can log into the Terminal server.

The Open Licenses are installed but they will not issue.

RD Licensing Diagnoser has 2 warnings.
1. The licensing mode for the Remote Desktop Session Host server is not configured.
And
2. Set the licensing mode on the Remote Desktop Session Host server to either Per User or Per Device. Use RD Licensing Manager to install the corresponding licenses on the license server.

Have Googled and Bing'd this and seems like so many of us are having TS licensing problems, between this and Windows 8.x I have to ask, does Microsoft hate us all!?
