Remote desktop vs terminal services role

I am trying to set up terminal services role so that users can login to the server desktop

However, the same can be done by enabling Remote Desktop here:

My Computer -> (right click) -> Properties -> Remote -> Remote Desktop

Select Allow connections from computers...........

So what is the difference between enabling terminal service role and allowing access to users against enabling remote desktop ?

Please advice.
