Has anyone here actually seen a difference for themselves between installing programs using the RD install mode vs just running the setup program as admin, and then having multiple users run the programs? I have some terminal server VMs that users are logging into via RDP to run statistical jobs. The servers have all programs locally installed, and the data are on either local volumes or san volumes connected via iscsi, so all processing is being done on the VM.
Several times over the past couple of years, I've installed software such as SAS, Stata, MS Office, etc just by running the exe setup file as admin and then realizing that I should have used install mode. The thing is, the programs always run without error for several users at a time. Sometimes, I've seen that excel or adobe reader will be slow to open, but that's often cured by updates.
Has anyone here done any apples to apples tests of RD install mode vs traditional install method?
