User Experience/Performance with RD Virtualization Host

We are testing Windows 2012 for VDI solution.  We have a Windows 2012 Data Center server.   On this server we installed the following 3 role services:  RD Web Access, RD Virtualization Host and RD Connection Broker.

We created a Windows 8 VM directly in Hyper V (vhdx stored on SAN) and then tested with a Remote Desktop connection from our Thin Client.  The Thin Client is updated for RDP 8.  The performance was great.

Next we created a Desktop Collection to provision desktops based on this Windows 8 template.  The template was created by running sysprep on the Windows 8 VM discussed above.  We chose personal desktops and storage is on the SAN as well. Memory, CPU allocation and network configuration are identical.

When we connect from the same Thin Client via Remote Desktop the performance on these provisioned desktops is noticeably poorer.  Slower mouse, video streaming, etc.

The only variable we can think of is the RD Virtualization Host where the provisioned desktops reside?  Is this adding some sort of overhead affecting performance?
