some questions about a new RDS farm

Hi everyone!

I am in the middle of deploying a testing RDS farm for my company

this is my environment (everything is virtual on esxi 5.1 )

server 1 - web access+connection broker+session host

server 2,3,4 - session host.

i have made 2 collection -

office apps - the hosts are 1,3

desktop publication - servers 2 and server 4

i have few questions and points i couldn't find out or i'm just not sure, so here it goes

1) the name i see in where my connection is going (client side), to  that every app and session i create, is server1.

i'm guessing its because he is the connection broker but i couldn't find a way to change the name to something cool like "rds-superfarm" just to make it look a bit more official and also i wouldn't want the users to see my server names.

2) i published  some office apps but i couldn't find how to associate the client files to use them by default.  i edited the file association in the app under the collection, added a connection through my desktop control panel, but still when i'm opening a file on my desktop it open the word that's installed locally and my rds one...

3) how does the load balancing inside a collection (between the session hosts) works? the connection broker is aware to memory, cpu, number of connections or what? is there a way to see how he see the load on every host and maybe give priorities to different host etc? all iv'e seen is changing the weight inside the collection properties but i felt like its too basic and wondered if there is something more advanced :)

4) i want to understand a little better the whole process till the user open it's apps, via web access ,  if you can just fill in the blanks and correct me if i'm wrong in some places:

user logon to the web page. web access server asks __?__ to see what apps are published to that user.

the user selects the app. web access server redirect the user to the connection broker.

connection broker checks that the user don't have any open session to the collection of the app.

connection broker redirect the user the to the correct remote host session according to load balancing.

sorry for the long post and thanks!

shlomi
