When I have renamed both a domain-joined Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 system with Remote Desktop Services (RD Session Host, CB, and other required role services), after the rename, no one can RDP to the server in question unless you connect using MSTSC /ADMIN.
Once the computer is renamed back to the original name, RD Session Host starts accepting connections properly again.
How can I rename a Windows Server 2012 / R2 Server WITH Remote Desktop Services installed, and have it function after the reboot?
It is standard practice when building a new server to use a "staging name" and then rename it on the domain into the production name when it comes time for a cut-over.
