Redirected local COM ports not appearing in Device Manager on virtual desktop

Hi,

I am trying to redirect COM ports from my RDP client (Win7SP1) to Windows 8.1 virtual desktop. I can see that they redirect as per the output below:

C:\Users\name>change port /query
AUX = \DosDevices\COM1
COM1 = \Device\Serial0
COM12 = \Device\RdpDrPort\;COM12:1\tsclient\COM12
COM2 = \Device\Serial1
COM3 = \Device\RdpDrPort\;COM3:1\tsclient\COM3

I have tested that COM12 works by installing Putty and connecting to COM12 within that program. COM12 on my Win7 client is connected to a router and I can successfully enter and receive commands to and from this router within the RDP session.

My problem is that I cannot see COM12 listed in Device Manager on the Windows 8.1 virtual desktop. Because of this, I cannot select this port in the POS application I want to be able to use the redirected port in as it only shows COM1 and COM2 which are the local ports listed in Device Manager on the W8.1 machine.

Is there a way to have these redirected ports appear in the the W8.1 Device Manager so the POS app I am using can use these ports? I don't want to have to resort to a serial-over-IP solution to get this working, I would prefer to be able to do it all within RDP.

Thanks
RR
