We are looking for a document scanner recommendation in the $200-$300 range. We need it to have a configurable 'scan to' button from the device that can scan to a network share, connection can be either network, or connected to a worksation via usb. The office has two locations and the scanner will be at the satellite location, where the workstations log into a Windows Server 2008 R2 terminal server via RDS. There is a VPN between the two locations, so that is an option for getting the scanned documents transferred to the server, but we are concerned about the impact that will ahve on bandwidth.
We cannot use either an Epson or HP product that requires their management software to run the scanner, as we have attempted to set those up with little success. Our preference would be for any management to be done through the scanner's interface and for the documents to send over the network with smb, but something that uses a lightweight management software that works better than the HP Solution Center would be acceptable. Any suggestions are appreciated.
