Randomly - "The group policy service failed the logon. Access is denied" running remote applications

I know there are a ton of articles on this but they dont seem to work for me. I am getting this error sporadically on our servers.

We are running a cloud application being published from 5 different application servers. The application is a published app through terminal services and we users are authenticated through active directory; we have 16000 users.

Once in a while, we get the above error message and the user is denied access to log on to the server. The hang up is at the user profile service trying to load and then bam, error message.

I myself am unable to log in to one of our app servers then the next day I am magically able to again. We have backdoors to access the servers, so when this first happened, I added .bak at the end of my profile and was able to log in no problem but I got a temporary profile. I then tried deleting my profile and it never recreated it, so I still go on a temp profile. The next day, I am able to log in with no problems.

At first, it was just affecting some employees, now it is starting to affect some customers running our application.

Ive tried this: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpronetworking/thread/8c0054a3-35be-4fc4-839c-e2176613eb23

And various others found on the web. Do they work? Its hard to say because I may try a fix and get on to the server, but it may occur again. What Id like to find out is how to stop this from ever happening again. Ive read in some places, the roaming profiles needs to be removed, in other forums a few other tips, then reboot the server. I cant reboot the server during production, and during non peak times, the servers arent under load. So its hard to determine if any of the fixes have worked. I can say that it does still happen.

So I guess my question really comes down to what I can use to find the root of the problem. I def think it has to do with the profile service, but what tools can I use to figure this out OR if anyone knows the real fix for this, please let me know.

Thanks!

Russ, MCSE
