I'm looking to do a 2012 RDS deployment with the following characteristics.
Phyiscal Windows Server 2012 host to act as the Remote Desktop Services Virtualization Host.
Virtual Windows Server 2012 host to act as the Remote Desktop Services Connection Broker.
Virtual Windows Server 2012 host to act as the Remote Desktop Services Gateway.
Deployment will be pool based. Virtual machine files and user profile disks will be stored on NetApp SAN, 10Gbit uplink to Physical Virtualization host via Cisco Nexus switching.
My question is probably relatively simple for someone familiar with this type of deployment. How many Win7 Hyper-V VMs should I expect to be able to run on my virtualizaton host? These VMs will be used by staff for office applications, web applications, etc - and should be capable of performing comparable to existing mid-range laptops.
My physical virtualization host is an HP Proliant DL360 G6 - with the following characteristics:
2x Intel Xeon X5550 @2.67GHz (8 cores in total)
72 GB RAM
Internal SAS drive for OS install.
Onboard Gigabit + PCI 10Gbit NICs
So how many users should I expect this to support? Is there a way to reliably calculate? Everything I've read thus far points to RAM as the limiting factor, but I'm also highly concerned about the implication of # of available CPU cores and would like to know how that factors in as well.
Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
