Just curious how others are doing it?
To my knowledge:
- Microsoft prohibits SPLA licensing for Windows 7. Each client has to buy a separate Windows 7 license and provide hosting provider with the license info. You cannot buy\resell“rent” the license nor buy on someone's behalf.
- Microsoft prohibits two customers from sharing the same server resources when accessing hosted virtual desktops; cloud providers must dedicate a server for each individual VDI customer. This means you need to have separate physical servers for EACH client.
To me it seems without significant investment in hardware and licensing, the answer is likely going to be terminal services on Server 2012 (skinned as Windows 7 or 8) and using InTune. I have to learn more about how this might work though and the pitfalls with end user experience especially with USB device redirection, multimedia, etc.
Does anyone know how companies like Desktone legally provides Windows 7 virtual desktops? Seems like there wouldn't be much of a profit margin after meeting all the compliance.
