How could I get the remote desktop and applcations(video & text) with the highest quality consistently?

$

My Server is Win 10 1909(10.0.18363.592) and my client is the same version.
When I use mstsc.exe to connect to the server and run a video player remotely, I found the video quality changed dynamically,
sometimes high quality, somethimes very low.
Sever and client are in a local network and the bandwith is 1G bps and very stable.
My question is, how could I get the remote desktop and applcations(video & text) with the highest quality consistently?
I need the quality keep stable and do not change dynamically.
I have tried two Group Policy settings, the first is“Configure image quality for RemoteFX Adaptive Graphics", the second is
"Configure RemoteFX Adaptive Graphics", tested all options, but it doesn't work.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Device Redirection tab missing from RDG?

I expect this may be my mistake and I'm more than happy to be corrected...but when configuring Remote Desktop Gateway policies on Windows Server 2019 I am missing the "Device Redirection" tab.  Its not available in the options anywhere.

Has that feature been removed from Windows Server 2019?

I would like to try and disable some device redirection settings...which seemed straightforward :-)

Thanks

can't get to vpn

I have vpn set up on server 2019 std. When I try to connect it times out with error 806. Says maybe something is blocking GRE. (I have 1723 and 47 forwarded. Doesn't let me specifically select GRE protocol but read further.) I can connect from this system to other servers I have win vpn set up on. I've tried briefly setting the router dmz toward the server and turning off server firewall. The router does have vpn passthrough and can even host vpn but I want to use the server to do it. It apparently never gets as far as verifying password because it doesn't complain about that if I put it in wrong. It says "port open" and then "connecting with pptp" and then "verifying password" and just times out to that 806 error. Routing and Remote Access manager says vpn is all good. Any ideas? Thanks.

Parallel RDP connection to terminal server and LSASS.exe crash

Dear all,

I am having serious problems while connecting using VPN to RDP to terminal server using smartcard. While I try to log in from one machine it works flawlessly (even it is quite slow). However, when I try to login concurrently from 2 machines using smartcard, I got an error saying that there is no smartcard present, or there are no authentication certificates. Once I get such error, the terminal server is restarted (WS2012R2, WS2016, WS2019 - tested on all versions). In the event log, there is an error lsass.exe crash with status code -1073740940. As this happens only sometimes, we cannot easily reproduce it, but the chance that the server will crash on Kerberos authentication is much higher when 2 clients are connecting concurrently.

Do you have any ideas where might be a problem?

I have just setup a 2 node Windows 2019 RDS farm. I would like to remove the hidden context menu when right clicking start, ie: this:

I have been able to do this in the past on Windows 2016 RDS servers using the method described in the link below, however, it does not appear to work in Windows 2019.

Does anyone have any suggestions or alternative methods.

Issue with user profiles

I have a Windows server 2012 running as a terminal server for about 10 users. Each morning for the last few days we have been having issues with user profiles not loading. At least one user has a temp profile when login in first thing in the morning. So far rebooting the server fixes and all is well for the rest of the day. So far each morning its a different user and it has happened to two users at the same time.

Just wondering what could cause this and where would i start looking to see for the cause of this issue? I've taken a look at the event viewer but couldn't find anything obvious.

Users getting kicked off

We have an RDS farm at our main office and a bunch of branch offices that connect to it. A few users at one of the branch offices has said it kicks them off from time to time. It doesn't log them out, just brings them back to the login screen. We are using Dell Wyse 3040 terminals.

My guess is this happens due to a short internet outage as this office doesn't have the greatest internet. Is it possible to extend the timeout per say?

Thank you

Windows server 2008 R2 RDS upgrade to Windows Server 2012 R2 - Upgrade path

Hi Team,

We are working to upgrade many servers that's running partial and all RDS services that's running on Windows server 2008 R2 to Windows server 2012 R2. The in-place upgrade has many issues. We tried -

1. Uninstalling RDS roles , upgrade to 2012 r2 and later tried installing RDS role, ran into issues as role installation fails with errors codes which we are working with MS support and dont see success with action plans provided

Post reviewing many best practices, I see Microsoft suggest few roles which can support in-place upgrade vs migration options to windows 2012 R2

Would like to know whats the best approach on upgrading windows 2008 R2 servers running RDS services to Windows server 2012 R2

MS Server Essential Sucks for small business

$

I am part of small business (<5 employees) that needed a central server/workstation that could be logged into by multiple users. We chose windows server because we could have our familiar office products and host our business software while also supporting the technical side of the work.  This needed the ability to make use of and manage multi core processors and queue work jobs for those cores.  Windows Server Essentials with HPC Pack seemed the perfect solution. Alas, I was mistaken.  This was just a way for MS to suck us in with an inferior product that we would need to pay to fix by purchasing more expensive upgrades (Windows Standard and RDP CALs).

Meanwhile, linux has all we need to connect ANY number of users and mangange ANY number of compute nodes in an HPC environment, FOR FREE!  Is using office products as convenient/easy in linux? No but better than paying a $1,000+ in license fees for all the MS products you'll need to get this to work.

If you are looking to connect multiple users to a server remotely for a small business, STOP looking at MS.  Start searching for a linux variant that suites your needs.

Hello Team,

We have one central windows 2016 RDS license server having around 2000 licenses. There are around 10 servers in our environment is having RDS role installed, However, all of those servers are using this single central server for licensing purpose. is there any way we can check what all servers are pointing to this central license server and using the RDS licenses. It is old setup so we dont have this info when those 10 VMs were deployed.

Hope, i was able to explain my question

Force pdfs to open in Acrobat and not IE?

Hi,

I have a 2012 R2 RDS and Acrobat 2017 is installed on it. When a user clicks a link in IE to a pdf it always opens in IE. I want every pdf on this server to open in Acrobat. I have already disabled the Acrobat reader add on in IE. I have checked this setting this on several user profiles. The add on shows as disabled but pdfs still open in IE when in a webpage.

Thanks for any help on this.

UPD Windows 7 reliplcate to new created pooled win10

Hi Experts!

Can someone help me on how to replicate the old user profile disk of windows7 pooled to newly created win10 pooled in VDI ? We have some difficulties on we can use the old UPD of the user. i have some research telling that A user profile disk are for single collection only it means you will not able to use the old one but the best practices is to create a new folder for UPD which is seperate from win7 pooled collection.

Considerations when implementing User Profile Disks

  • User profile disks are for a single collection only.
+ A user connecting to two different collections will have two separate profiles.
  • Properties of User Profile Disks are set automatically upon creation and contain all profile data and registry settings by default.
+ These properties can be defined prior to creation or after the fact in the Session Collection properties from Server Manager.
  • Some form of central file share is required prior to UPD creation as the UNC path of this share will need to be provided in the wizard during initial configuration.
+ One major benefit of these file shares is that when more RDS hosts are added to support the collection, those hosts are automatically added to the ACL of the share, not requiring an administrator to take any action in modifying security permissions.
  • User Profile Disks are restricted a single session, which means if a user is logged into one RDS host, they cannot connect to another and they cannot have more than one session active on a single host.
  • User Profile Disks are created using a naming scheme that corresponds to a user's GUID and makes identifying the UPD associated with a user into a very complicated task.
+ To make this process a simple one, there is a standalone utility published in Microsoft's Technet Gallery that addresses this issue - Sidder

Thanks

Questions on RDS CALS with Windows Server 2019

Hi Team,

I have couple of questions on RDS CALS

- With 5*2019 RDS User CALS, can we have five concurrent connection to a server running Windows Standard 2019 OEM?

- If we downgrade the Windows Standard server 2019 to 2016, Would 2019 RDS CALS work with Windows 2016 Server OS? If not, can we get RDS CALS 2019 downgraded to 2016 to use it with Windows Standard Server OS?

- If we already own 2016 User CALS, can we use it with Windows Standard server 2019?

- We use to have 2 RDS CALS included with Windows server 2008 earlier, Is it the same case with 2019 windows server standard?

netlogon issue

Hi,

We have 3 Rdgateway servers ( server 2012 R2 en 2008 R2) in our domain and each has its own URL for accessing the internal servers from internet.

Yesterday I wan checking the netlogon logs and find out that each time we connect to RDgateway to access an internal server these events get logged. nts72 is Rdgateway server and nts80 is the internal server that we access. We dont see any issue with login, but I would like to know why netlogon says " The specified account not exist"

Set mouse pointer problem with multipe screens

$

0

We use Window Server 2012 R2 Version 6.3 (Build 9600).To access our application we use Web Access for remote desktop.

In our application we set the mouse pointer over a command via "Cursor.Position". It works well when the local pc have only one screen. It works also well when the local pc have two screens in the configuration [1|2]. If the configuration of the screens on the local pc is [2|1] it set the mouse pointer to the right border of the screen.

It works also well in each screen configuration when we run our application in Win7, Win8 or Win10.

We have not found any way to detect the error case and no way to solve it.

I have prepared a small test program. With this program I can reproduce the problem.

Any idea how we can solve this problem?

Best regards.
