We have a Windows 2012 Server which we use in our environment as a Jump server for performing day to day management tasks, The requirement is, we have to enable multiple users (6-8) from my team to logon to the server simultaneously, Please let me know what role is needed to be installed and step by step instructions please. I don't want to enable unnecessary things like capability of publishing Applications/VDI etc.. Simple requirement is to have multiple terminal server sessions allowed.

RDP Licences not recognised

Hi, we have purchased, installed and activated 25 per user volume licence, rdp cals.  they are showing up in the licence manager.  However once the 120 day grace period had ended on the built in licences the 25 are not being recognised.  They are still showing up in the licence manager with no issues but only 2 remote users are being allowed to connect rather than the 25 that should be.  Please assist as this is driving me mad.

Server 2012 File Preview Locks Files

Hi everybody,

I recently reinstalled one of my customers server.

The previous installation was Server 2008 Foundation running RDS and the new installation Server 2012R2 Foundation (RDS).

With the previous installation it was possible to use the file preview for documents like Word and Excel or PDF in the explorer, and while these files were openend it was possible to delete them or move them.

With the new installation on Server 2012 it's not possible to delete or move these files when they are shown in the explorer preview.

Any ideas?

There is also another issue, it should be possible to preview saved e-mail (*.msg) conversations with the Windows Explorer when the 32-bit "Outlook 2013 / Office" version has been installed
This also doesn't work, the preview handler has not been made for x64 but for the x86 it should work. But it doesn't show the messages in the explorer.

Kind regards,

Tim

Hyper-V and RDS Confusiong

We have a 2008 R2 server with 2 2008 R2 Virtual Machines running in Hyper-V.

We have 5 RDS CALs that we applied to the core server, set up Per User.

Our understanding was that this would get us 5 unique user logins into any of the 3 machines  (Core, VM1, VM2).  7 if you count admins.

In testing this, however, there appears to be no practical limit to how many users we can log in with.  We have over 10 users logged in so far.

I have read that this may be due to a grace period, but we ran a command (in an admin command prompt) and found that our grace period is ended.

Can anyone please explain why we do not appear to be hitting the RDS caps?

Thanks,

Server 2008R2 RDS Session, Internet Explorer issue

Hi everybody,

I am having some strange problems on a Server 2008R2 with RDS.

When a random user logs onto it's Remote desktop session and tries to upload a file through the internet explorer.

The internet explorer has no access to the shares on the server.

For example, when i go to Hotmail.com, logon, and try to create a new email with an attachment, when i press add item it asks me for credentials. (When trying to browse the RDS server).

The actual user is able to access al these share using the file-explorer, but when the users wants to browse through files using IE it doesn't have permissions.

When starting IE for the first time it also cannot identify the internet explorer on the local network, saying it's a program not on the local network with a security risk.

When i check the taks manager "IEXPLORE.EXE" it has been started by the correct user but strangly IE has no clue who started it.

All users have folder redirectection enabled, \\server\%user%\destkop (etc.).

This started happening out of the blue, any ideas?

Many thanks,

Tim

Terminal Services black screen issue

$

Hi all,

We have an environment with multiple terminal servers which we use for RemoteApps. On all the servers but the one with the TS Gateway role, users from outside our network get a black screen when attempting to launch a RemoteApp. If the session broker connects the user to the TS server (called TS1) which is also running the gateway service, it works normally. The remote apps work for all clients on all servers for clients that connect internally.

While connected to TS1 remotely, I ran "netstat -an" andcan see the only connections to my terminal server was over port 443. This is what I would expect as the function on the TS Gateway is to NAT 443 to 3389 so as not to expose 3389 to the Internet. The problem is when the session broker connects me to one odf the other terminal servers remotely, I run netstat again and see in addition to the connections to 443 that it is also trying to connect to 3379 using the internal address of the terminal server, which of course won't work from the internet.

I have spent many hours at this point trying to check settings, experimenting  and researching this issue, but it remains unresolved.

Can anyone help me with this? Thank you,

Adam

Still double Terminal Server sessions after applied GPO

Dear,

We have a customer(4 terminals in a session broker) that have double sessions on a Terminal Server 2008 environment. I have appliedthe GPO "Restrict Remote Desktop Services Users to a single Remote Desktop Services session" on enabled inComputer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Terminal Services\Terminal Server\Connections
This GPO is applied on these 4 terminals, I have checked this through gp results.

Also in Server Manager on "RD Session Host Configuration" the setting "Restrict each user to a signle session" set on Yes.

What to do because there are still disconnected sessions visible in Task Manager from before the weekend and now they're working on another session on another terminal server and the disconnected session on another terminal server is still visible.

RDS 2012 R2: A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the (name-of-service) service

Hi guys,

On a random base (daily, weekly) we're experiencing major log-in problems on our Windows Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Services farm. The VM's are hosted on Hyper-V 2008 hosts and we're not using Citrix techniques etc.

Users are reporting that they cannot log-in, the log-in sessions hangs with a blank screen when loading their user profile (e.g. Please Wait For The User Profile Service).

In the System event log of the server on which the user is logging on the following errors are shown:

Source:        Service Control Manager
Date:          23-12-2014 7:28:01
Event ID:      7011
Task Category: None
Level:         Error
Keywords:      Classic
User:          N/A
Description:

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the UmRdpService service.

…and after 30 (or sometimes 60) seconds, the same error only another service (in random order):

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the UmRdpService service.

…and after exactly 30 seconds, the same error only another service:

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the UxmSms service.

etcetera, with the following errors:

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the Netman service.

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the AudioEndPointBuilder service.

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the WPDBusEnum service.

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the NlaSvc service.

The Portable Device Enumerator Service service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the TrkWks service.

A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the UmRdpService service.

These errors are logged continuously.

An administrator cannot solve this since he isn't able to login in as well (console or remotely), only a hard reset of the VM is possible to use the affected server again.

I took different steps to solve this problem without any success, like:

- Installing the latest Windows updates
- Removed unnecessary printer drivers, print monitors and print processors (no local printers/drivers are installed, only Remote Desktop Easy Printer driver is used)
- Searched different forum posts, but found only hotfixes for Windows Server 2008 R2.

Can someone please help me with this annoying problem?

Many thanks!!

EDIT:
Of course is increasing the time-out not really an option here... http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/13765.event-id-7011-service-timeout.aspx

Unable to retrieve the session collection properties

Hi,

we're facing the following issue while trying to add new Remote Desktop Session Hosts into
a session host collection  : "Unable to retrieve the session collection properties".

The server can be added into the deployment but can't be added into the session host collection and the message above
is returned. This error never happened before and is ennoying as we need to deploy more Servers/Collections.

A collegue noticed that adding a couple of servers at once (from the GUI) succeeded ...
I can't find anything related on EventViewer (Brokers / DataBase server)

Is this a known bug ? I can't find anything related on Microsoft support.microsoft.com
Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks.

Hi frenz,

I have a requirement to configure a Terminal Session on windows server 2012, I would like to give RDP access to 100+ users for a Particular server (single server) which is in Production. Currently only 2 session is possible.

I know I need RDS CALS here, that I will take care.

Kindly Help me with the step by step Process.

My Idea:

Create a RDS farm on Single server (New one), activate the RDSLI role on the same.

Add the Production Server as a session Host and Publish the MSTSC on Web access or control panel

2012 R2 RDS Gateway issue with full desktop connections (RemoteApps work ok)

$

I have a 2012 R2 RDS install that includes 3 session hosts and one server that functions as Gateway, Connection Broker, and Web Access server.  I the proper CAP and RAP policies set up to allow connections.  The Gateway and other service machine was upgraded from 2012 to 2012 R2 so I know the basic configuration was sound. The way I went about this was to clone the 2012 machine into our development environment to run the upgrade and then rename, join the domain with different name, remove the old from the domain and rename the new server to the old one's name.

I ran into an issue where the session collection was not populated on the newly upgraded server so I ended up having to delete the deployment and then delete the registry entries for the published apps for the site.  After I did that the installation started working fine from the inside as long as I made sure the Bypass Gateway on local addresses option was checked in the deployment. (I prefer to leave that on so I can see the number of connections in the Gateway Manager but that's a nice to have not a need to have.)

Where it stands now, if I go to the "Connect to a remote PC" tab and trying to hit a server it does NOT work, but if I run the Mstsc.exe app and specify the gateway server address it DOES work. Something in the way the RDP connection from that specific function on the server is getting transferred to the client is wrong but I'm not sure how to fix it.

Any ideas on where to check?  I'm guessing there's a registry entry somewhere that's wrong but I'm not sure.  Anyone run across this or have any ideas?

Thanks,

Jack

Certificate Question for RemoteApp

$

Hey Guys -

I've got a questions which should be simple for anyone familiar with the topic.  I am currently setting up RemoteApp for use on our domain.  Currently, all roles are installed onto a single 2012 R2 server.  The current plan calls for RemoteApp to only be accessed via its web console (https://serverfqdn/RDWeb/Feed/webfeed.aspx) and it will only be accessed from systems local to the server (no internet access.)

In RemoteApp's configuration, there are 3 (currently installed) roles which a certificate may be assigned to - "RD Connection Broker - Enable SSO", "RD Connection Broker - Publishing", and "RD Web Access."  When visiting the web link (like above), I am shown the insecure message in my browser and must continue being "unsafe."

My question is - based on the use described above - which of the 3 roles will I need to install a certificate for?  Encryption / security isn't as much of a concern as it will all be local ttraffic so am basically just trying to get the web console to load without warning.  If more than one, may they be created on the CA by a single request?  Thanks!

RD Web Access gives 404 after install.

Hello,

I just installed the service for RD Web Access and when I click the link to the server name that it provides (https://localhost/rdweb) it gives a 404 message. Is there something else I have to configure to enable this?

How to add users to access RDS without local account

$

Guys, Gals,

I recently deployed a Windows 2012 setup with a DC and RDS VM's.

Everything works fine now, where if I add an user to the DC this one can authenticate without any problems to the different services BUT cannot authenticate to the TS server.

If I add this new account to the TS under Remote Desktop in Control Panel, at the RDS machine, THEN this new user can authenticate to the TS and login and use the resources.

I know there has got to be a way of just adding the user at the DC machine, then adding the new user to the Remote Desktop User Group, and the user can then authenticate and login to the TS machine.

But for the life of me I cannot find the right GP policy to accomplish this, and I'm asking for your help.

So in other words, I would like to add a user to the DC, and after I add it to the RD users group, it can authenticate to the TS and login and do as it pleases, without me needing to add the user to the DC AND local to the TS.

Any help will be greatly appreciated,

TIA!

How to monitor how many users are currently logged into my Remote Desktop server?

I have a Windows 2012 R2 server in a  work group.

Is there a way to see who are actively logged in using Remote Desktop Service?
