I am new to RDS Service

We are designing a solution for RDS Service for one of our Client.

We are looking to Run a 3D Maps with Heavy Graphics application on the windows Server 2012 R2 and the clients would access the Server using remote desktop.

We looking approx. 35 Users with Basic Client System and would be access this server with the following spec.

Server Specification:

Dell – 2 Qty.
Processor: 2X 12 Core , 2.6 Ghz
RAM: 128Gb
Hard drive: 2X 300GB SAS 15K , R1
GPU: 2X NVidia K2 GPU

We are looking for the Sizing of the Server with RemoteFX with 2 GPU (K2) so that all the Graphics processing is completed in the Server Side.

We can use remote app in case the RDS does not work. Can we use any better GPU for RemoteFX?

Can the RemoteFX Use 2 * K2 Card and Give Better Performance?

Certificate of internal CA for RDS Gateway Deployment

Hello,

We are building a RDS Deployment with a Gateway and multiple Session Hosts (2012 R2). It's clear for me, that we need a certificate of a public CA for the Gateway Server for external users. But do we also need a public CA cert for every SH or can we use Certs from out AD CA? Because for my understanding, it's the GW that establishes the connection to the SH (both in same AD), and thus the SH certificate should be trusted by the GW. Can anyone advise please?

Thanks a lot

Users keep files in HomeFolder... Logon and Logoff takes too long....

hello everyone

I have a question regarding Home Folder of TS Users. A clients has 4 RD Servers with 1 Farm. Roaming Profiles enable and stored in network share. All users instructed to NOT KEEP their fiels and important folders in home folder, but every user keep his files in that folder. Some users has more that 10G files in it, and while the logging in (logoff) RD Server, login/logoff  time takes very long, because proile folder strored in RD server tries to sync with usrname.V2 folder stored in network share

Now I have an idea to restrict users to keep files with logon script that will withdraw write permission to that folder.... So is this good idea or you can suggest something better? What is the best practices?

Gateway Becomes Unresponsive Once a Day

RDS 2012 R2 with 1 GW, 1 CB and 3 SH's. 2 collections and less than 10 users (at the moment). This happens to every user. So, what appears to be, once a day the GW becomes unresponsive. You can't login (it hangs at Please wait....). You can't stop the VM with stop-vm <vm-name>. No one can connect from external (get can not connect to computer). All i can do is turn off from hyper-v manager. Upon reboot, everyone can connect. Here windows logs->application:

WTSVirtualChannelOpen fails on Windows Server 2012, identical code works fine on Windows Server 2008 etc.

We try to open two Virtual Channels with the same name on a Windows Server 2012 with two WTSVirtualChannelOpen(WTS_CURRENT_SERVER, WTS_CURRENT_SESSION, "name") calls from within a single process.

While the first call succeeds, the second call always hangs for 10 seconds and returns NULL. Afterwards called GetLastError returns 0x80004005 (unspecified error).

This problem only happens on Server 2012, the same code works without problems on Server 2003 and 2008, using the same client.

Firewall is disabled (personal and domain).

•Did anything change between Server 2008 and Server 2012 that would cause such an "unspecified error"?
•Is there any way to get more detailed information on the cause of the error (e.g. activate logging on WTS... functionality)?
Any answers are appreciated ...

Andreas

Windows RDS 2012R2 Gateway & Web how they work together (Coming from a Citrix guru)

$

So I have been researching all over and having some trouble finding some details on the subject of RD Gateway & RD Web and how (or if) they work together.

I am come from a Citrix background and I am used to a Citrix NetScaler / StoreFront deployment. The Netscaler providing the HTTPS encryption proxying to the StoreFront which is the web interface where a user can launch a full desktop or application. I am curious if RDS works in a similar fashion, with RDS Gateway playing the role of NetScaler & RDS Web playing the role of StoreFront.

I am finding mixed information on this subject. Am I completely wrong and the two are independent of each other?

Is RDS Web used for the LAN only? RDS Gateway used for WAN access and only allowing access from an RDP client?

I have read it is best to have these two roles co-exist on the same machine (which I have done). I also plan to use an externally trusted SSL for my external FQDN remote.mydomain.com

Any information or articles that can me figure this out will be greatly appreciated!

Creating an RDS environment using a mix of Win2K8 Non-R2, Win2K8 R2 and Win2k12 servers

$

In our production environment, we currently run Provision/vWorkspace to publish applications to users via an HTTP link. It works very similar to RDS in terms of the user clicks the HTTP link, they logon using their MS credentials, they are presented with a web page with the applications they are permitted to run and by clicking on one, an RDP session is created from their workstation to the target server and their application is executed for them.

Due to some of our applications being from the Win2K3 days, we have found that we can run them in a Win2K8 Non-R2 environment (x86) and not higher, so I would like to as if the following setup would run OK in terms of compatibility and what would be our restrictions?

* 2x Win2K12 RDS Connection Brokers
* Various Win2K8 Non-R2 terminal servers running our legacy apps.
* Various Win2K8 R2 terminal servers running newer apps.

Has anyone tried this setup and will it work?

Enhanced or on-demand clipboard functionality

$

Where would be the best place to submit a feature request for an enhanced clipboard feature?

I would like an optional transfer of clipboard to local host but not enabled by default.  I have users with a workflow that requires frequent copy/paste functionality between remote apps and I would like to have the default clipboard feature disabled because the user base is frequently on a high latency lower bandwidth connection.

If the clipboard feature is disabled then they can copy and paste between remote app sessions without affecting bandwidth by transferring clipboard to local workstation but occasionally it is necessary to copy and paste to or from the local workstation.  I would like something like a shift-ctrl-c to copy to local clipboard but a regular ctrl-c would just copy between remote app sessions.

If enable the clipboard then every copy paste function is transferred to local workstation and large text or image transfers are very slow .

Hi,

Is it no longer possible to publish remoteapps using MSI?

The problem with this is that it's not possible to do file associations unless you use the Remote Desktop Web Connection.

RDS2012R2 User Printers Showing Up In All User Sessions

$

Hi There,

I'm having a rather odd and annoying issues with our client's RDS servers and some printers. Some users printers seem to 'bleed' to all other users sessions.

Printers are all configured on the same print server and are shared out from there. Onsite IT then manually add printers to users sessions as they need them.

However, for some reason some printers are showing up in all user sessions, which is causing Devices and Printers to show 2 and 3 of the same printers installed. I'm logged into the server as my domain admin account and I have no printers installed under my profile (other than XPS/Onenote/cutePDF as these are local printers), yet as you can see from the below screenshot, all the printers highlighted in blue show up, and these show for all users.

When I try to remove these printers one of a few things happens:

    1. Nothing. The printer does not remove and it just stays there.
    2. It disappears for a second and then reappears at the end of the list.
    3. It disappears for a few minutes and then reappears on its own.

Interestingly enough, these printers come and go on their own through out the day and it appears to be related to user logons, but I've been unable to narrow down what users are causing what printers to appear for all users.

Printer redirection is turned off so cannot be the cause.

How is such a thing even possible given that if the printer was installed as an admin, then it would show up all the time and removing it would actually remove the printer and user printers are meant to stick to that users sessions.

And more importantly, how do I resolve this annoying issue as it is confusing users when they have multiple printers to print to of the same type.

    On-Screen Keyboard

    Hi,

We are running several RDS 2012R2 servers and some users need to use the on-screen keyboard.
I've created a tile linked to OSK.exe and they can also use the search field on the right-hand side to type and search for OSK.

On all servers users will get the error: On-screen Keyboard does not work any more / Cannot start on-screen keyboard

When an administrator starts the osk it works fine.

How can we make sure users can use the OSK?

Black screen on Windows Server 2012 r2

    Hi,

I'm facing some problem since a month now on my RDS server 2012 r2.

    Its a virtual machine, hosted on hyper-V 2012 r2.

Everything worked so far since one month when i add some trouble for all my users.

Randomly during the day, the server slow down, some users got kicked from remote session, and when they try to come back, they got a black screen.

When this event appear, i'v tried to check the server state, task manager or anything, and i cannot browse anything on the server because it is slow answering or not answering at all.

The only work arround i found about this, is to reboot the server. The problem is, right now, i need to reboot the servereveryday ....

    I've tried many things :

    - restore the VHDX system from a previous state (using veeam 14 days ago restaure backup)
    - Enable automatic disconnection for all inactive or pending remote session (users doesnt log off properly) set to 1 or 10 minutes.

    - All windows update are installed.

None of those things correct the problem.

ANy ideas ? Any tools i can use on my server to gather data to provide to find a solution ?

    CentralProfile Registry Key

    Hello

So i have a windows 2012 r2 RDSH configured for terminal session together with user profile disk.

Wenn a user logs on everything seems fine, the UPD UVHD is created correctly and in the right Share, but he gets a popup notification that theres a propblem with his roaming profile.

In the eventlog i get an error with id 1521 from user profile service with detail "Path not found".

I looked into registry and, yes under HKLM,Software, Microsoft, Windows NT, current version, profile list, SID i have
    "ProfileImagePath" which is "C:\Users\username"
    and
    "CentralProfile" which is "test\username.domain.V4"

I was under the impression that this CentralProfile value is filled by the GPO "Set roaming profile path for all users logging onto this computer". Is this correct?
Because I ran RSOP for this user but said GPO isnt set.

I search the entire registry for a default value for this key, but to no avail, ive searched the default profile, found nothing.

Where does the Server take this path from? Where can i change this path to the correct path to our UPD Store?

Also, why do all users listet under the profilelist registry entry have a "V4" in the CentralProfile PAth? Is this something i need to worry about?

Also is this CentralProfile even useful while using UPDs?

So, we have an old WTS environment for which the users have tprofile path set in their AD Accounts.

Now for a new WTS i want to use UPD.

What is the recommened way to tell this new WTS to ignore the path under TPRofile Path in the AD Account?

How do I do this the best way?

Old WTS is win 2003, new is 2012 r2

Or does the 2012 collection automatically ignore tprofile if set to use UPD?

VDI 2012R2 connection is stuck on 'Configuring remote session...'

    Hi all,

I have a VDI2012R2 farm with personal desktop collection. All VMs in collection are Win7.

There are a number of client computers from outside that cannot connect to VDI VM. The connection is stuck on 'Configuring remote session...'. After period of time I got a message: "This computer can't connect to the remote computer. Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact the owner of the remote computer or your network administrator."

I have checked a TerminalServices-SessionBroker -> Operational logs and found this "This connection request has timed out. User could not log on to the end point within the alloted time. Remote Desktop Connection Broker will stop monitoring this connection request.". Other logs are fine, I see that broker found necessary VM and succesfully processed the connection request.

If I tried to connect from other client PC - everything is ok. All clients, VMs, VDI servers and HyperV Hosts are fully updated. Affected clients are with different OS's (Win8.1, Win Server 2008R2, Win Server 2012R2).

What can cause these problems? Additional troubleshooting steps needed.

RemoteApp Login Without domain or UPN

    Hello,

We're building and RDS environment and are running into a use issue we don't like.  We're going to serve RemoteApps strictly from the Web interface.  We have the login working without requiring the domain to web but can't seem to get the RDP login to work without requiring the domain.

I've tried to set the customRDP settings but they never make it to the RDP file that is downloaded.

    Set-RDSessionCollectionConfiguration -CustomRdpProperty "use multimon:i:0`nusername:s:DOMAIN\"

I've also added to the RDS HA Database and tried the domain custom property as well.  Nothing seems to work.

I followed these directions for the web, and they worked great: msfreaks.wordpress.com/2014/07/22/properly-removing-the-domain-prefix-requirement-from-rd-web-access-2012-r2/

Does anyone know if it's possible to get this to work?
