Hi.
I'm trying to get the external IP Address of clients connected over Remote Desktop through a RD Gateway.
I can get the IP Address using WTSQuerySessionInformation if I'm not connected through the gateway, but I get nothing but 0's when I connects through the gateway.
Interesting moment that if I connects from Mac OS (Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac OS),
WTSQuerySessionInformation gets client's IP normally.
Is there some other way to get client's IP? Or how to get Windows client's IP connected through RD Gateway with WTSQuerySessionInformation?
Hello Everyone,
Have a 2012 R2 server running Remote Desktop Services and Windows Server Essentials.
What is happening, when attempting to access Remote Web Access site, it will not launch unless I remote into the server as an Administrator. Once logged in, the website works and is accessible, allowing remote access to all configured resources.
If I go ahead and log off, the service will cease to function.
Any services or settings that I need to look into that might be causing this?
Please help!
Hi to all,

Hi,
I Created a window 2008 server with remote desktop services. I created the Resource Desktop Licence server on the same server. I installed a 5 user CAL. Now when I try to log into the server as a user not admin I get
"The required session access is denied".
I have added the group and the individual user to the remote desktop users group in the domain controller.
What am I missing?
I am trying to log into the server form my home desktop, where this network is in the azure environment. Does RDS allow users not connected to the domain to use the applications / desktop of the remote desktop server?
Regards,
Daniel.
Hi!
Can RemoteFX be assigned to a windows 10 VM through a Windows Server 2012 Data Center Host. If yes then which version?
Thanks.
I am running Remote desktop Services on a Windows Server 2008 R2. I have several customers that have been running remote apps via RDWEB for over a year now with no problem. Last night I installed a renewed server SSL certificate to replace the expired one. I then applied that certificate to Digital Signature Settings in Remote App Manager. Also I applied it to the RDP-TCP properties in Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration. I also imported the certificate in the Server Properties in RD Gateway Manager.
A long time Windows 7 customer who runs a remote app through Internet Explorer has no problem with the initial login to the Session Host.
BUT when he clicks on the icon for the remote app he was running just yesterday with no problem...he is now confronted with a new Windows Security login screen that again asks for credentials to log in to the Server. That additional login screen does not pop up when I try to access his login from my Windows 10 machine. This Windows security screen does not accept the same credentials he uses for the initial Session Host login via Internet Explorer. I am stumped. Must I delete and recreate the Remote App that he is using? Did the renewed Server Certificate cause this problem?
Thanks.
Since the new Windows 10 update, my Remote Desktop Connection Manager software is buggy. When running it on my external monitor (connected by USB adapter), the mouse does not show up visually, it is there, just cannot see it. I move the RDCMAN to my Surface Pro 3 screen (primary) it works fine. Also, since the Win 10 update, when I use RDCMAN to connect to a Windows 2012 R2 server, it is smaller than the screen with garbage in the black space -- main issue is that the mouse is about an inch off to the bottom right of where the visible mouse actually is. I have downloaded MultiDesk and it works just fine on all my monitors and with 2008 and 2012 server without issue. Any ideas? Or does Win 10 break the RDCMAN 2.7?
Hi all,
I would like to know how to set the Initial Program property in Remote Desktop Services (RD Session Host Configuration > RDP-Tcp > Environments) through registry. I want to set to "Do not allow an initial program to be launched; always show desktop".
I already know that is possible through GPO, but I don't want to. I also how to set to the other two options ("Run initial program specified by user profile and Remote Desktop Connection or client" and "Specify the following program when user logs on")... it's by changing the registry value fInheritInitialProgramin HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Terminal Server \WinStation\RDP-Tcp.

Hi,
I encountered a Remote desktop license issue, my O/S is Windows servere 2008, since the 120 days grace period expired so I purchase a "Microsoft WinRmtDsktpSvcsCAL 2012 Sngl OLP 1License NoLevel UsrCal 5 Quantity' from my vendor.
I have applied the license to my server through Licensing Manager, however when I checked the remote desktop session host configuration, it still show the grace period for remote desktop session host server has expired. I tried access the server through remote desktop, not work. Can anyone advise anything missing? thanks.
I did setup an new RDS License server in oud RDS/Citrix environment on a Windows 2012 server.
We are using RDS Per Device CAL. Everytime a license has been requeted we automatically get a warning:
Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-Licensing
Date: 9/4/2015 9:11:57 AM
Event ID: 42
Task Category: None
Level: Warning
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer: Test.com
Description:
An error occurred in policy module "Policy Module for company Microsoft Corporation product A02 has denied new license request with error code 14.
".
Does anyone knows what this warning means and how to solve it?

I am looking for a solution for logging that have open RDP sessions. My user account is constantly getting locked out and I think it is because I may have an open RDP session somewhere. Does anyone know a way I can force a logout of my account if it is open somewhere? I have tried the steps below but it that does not seem to be working. I have also tried the RDP Session group policy settings
"Computer Configuration > Policies > Admin Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host > Session Timeout" but those dont seem to work either. Am I missing something or is there another way to get this accomplished?
i. Open AD Users & Computers
ii. Select the user account(s)
iii. Go to the account's property -> logon hours -> set the desired denial period
(This needs to be completed on a individual user basis)
i. Open the Group Policy Management Console
ii. Edit an existing policy or create a new one
iii. Ensure the following policy is enabled: Computer / Policies / Windows Settings / Security Settings / Account Policies/ Kerberos Policies/ Enforce user logon restriction
i. Remain in the policy
ii. Enable the following policy: Computer / Policies / Windows Settings / Security Settings / Local Policies/ Security Options/ Network security: Force logoff when logon hours expire

Hello everyone,
I'm doing a solution for RemoteApp. Based on the question asked in this thread:
I want to make a RemoteApp published on the server, and from the local machine, when right click on a document file (Word, Excel, PDF or any type of document file) there is an option (context menu) to open that file with the RemoteApp published on the server (the RemoteApp will detect the file type and do the job) . I'm testing the solution with Excel, Word, .txt, .pdf it works fine. However, when I try with .bmp (and .png too), the default associated program on the server (Windows 2012 R2) is mspaint but I always get the error "Network error, cannot access to \\tsclient\c\Temp\myfile.bmp" , but that's not possible because other text, word, pdf files are in the same folder and all work very well. I think the problem is the file association with bitmap file. In the registry on the server, I have seen the .bmp has been mapped with a key like PBrush, that was the old Paint Brush program in the very first versions of Windows, I think.
Do you have any idea how to fix the problem file type association with mspaint program on the server (Win 2012 R2)?
Thanks a lot

Hello together,
Recently we start experiencing a strange problem with one of our Terminal servers. Shortly i will describe you, what exactly happen and how exactly the problem occur.
1. Our server is Terminal server Windows 2012 R2.
2. From location (not constant one) user bring up a VPN tunnels over SSL through NetExtender SonicWall app.
3. After short period of time, without any reason VPN terminate the session and the RDP session goes down likewise.
4. Immediately, the user restore the VPN session without any problems, but here the problems starts.
5. After login issues.
5.1 If the user use normal mstsc (RDP), logon screen appear, with domain\username field, etc,. but the password field is inactive, username field, language change button, everything else on the screen is also inactive.
5.2 If the user change his session to use Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Manager instead of normal RDP (mstsc), the session start, normal desktop and all icons on it appear, but again without any options they to be selected, or chosen
or do anything instead watching the frozen screen.
5.3 If the user use, another user (username) which was not previously used (there is no active session in disconnected or other state for the new user), RDP start but everything goes black (black frozen screen).
The only one option, someone to be able to use the server, is to open VMWARE, and from there to start the console. The only think what solved the issue, when it is occur, is to restart the server.
All investigation shows that error as EVENT ID (Event ID 9009 - The Desktop Window Manager has exited with code (0xd00002fe)).
Please for your help. Thanks in advance.
Best Regards.

Hello together.
We are running Windows 2012R2 RDS server. Server is cloud based and perform AD Domain Controller role. For past few days we received a lot of messages at EventViewer (.... RemoteDesktopService-RdpCoreTS section). By everything seems, that this are unauthorized
attempts someone to access the server.
Log Name: Microsoft-Windows-RemoteDesktopServices-RdpCoreTS/Operational
Source: Microsoft-Windows-RemoteDesktopServices-RdpCoreTS
Event ID: 140
Task Category: RemoteFX module
Level: Warnning
Keywords:
User: NETWORK SERVICE
Computer: XXXSERVERXXX
Description:
A connection from the client computer with an IP address of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx failed because the user name or password is not correct.
There is several IP addresses (5-6), for which we received this message in Event Viewer.
What we can do, to prevent this to continue to happen? We are with limited options as this is cloud based server in External Data Center, with allconsequentialbenefits and drawbacks.
Best Regards.
