Created new Remote Desktop Terminal Session Base Deployment but RDS Gateway Server and Connection Broker Deosn't work

Hello,

I just created new 2016 RDS Session Base environment where I have two servers.  1st Server has  RDS Web Services, RDS Gateway, and RDS License Role and 2nd Server has RDS Session and RDS Broker role.  I have configured the way I want it and created DNS Alias for server 1 which is the gateway server rds.domain.com and I have all the configuration setup correctly but I don't seem to get connected RDS Sessions/Broker server when I type in the rds.domain.com. It logs into server number 1 instead of server number 1.  I don't know if I am setting this up wrong or I need the broker and gateway role on same server? any help would be appreciated.

Thank You

Microsoft Remote Apps kicking out credentials

We are looking for a solution to save the credentials on our clients machines for the microsoft remote apps so that they dont have to enter the name and passwords to connect to the remote apps much like rdp will keep the credentials saved for them.  We find that for some users it will periodically kick out the credentials most of the time just the password and we will have to redo the webfeed to save the credentials on their machine again which could last a few days before being kicked out again.  The apps are hosted on a Server 2016 machine on a domain and the clients are connecting from non domain machines to run the apps.

User Profile Disks: Disk has the same disk identifiers as one or more disks connected to the system

Hello,

we have a Windows Server 2016 RDS session-based server with User Profile Disks enabled. If there is at least one user logged in, for every other user that connects to the server, a warning is added to the Event logs: "Disk <x> the same disk identifiers as one or more disks connected to the system". Aside from that, all seems to work fine, so should I be worried about these warnings?

Broker issue

Hello,

I've got an issue with session disconnection.

My environment is following :

- 1 broker server 2012 R2

- 5 RDS Server 2012 R2

- VDI client

When a user connect with rdp script , the request go to the broker and the connection is established on a RDS server.

My problem is sometimes when a user connect from another computer , the session already connected don't turn off and they have two simultaneous connection on two computer.

I searched in the event viewer and i can see that the broker receive the request and redirect to a RDS server.

When i try to open the session on another computer , the broker don't detect the first connexion and establish an another connection with a different ID instead of turn off the session and redirect the other computer.

It doesn't work since start of October, may be a KB update ?..

ADFS, WAP and RD Web Single Sign On

Hi!

I have created RDS 2016 environment for out external users (domain users, not domain clients/devices) which consist of:

RD Gateway
RD Web Access server (NLB - 2 hosts)
HA RD Connection Broker and
RD Session Hosts

User will be able to access our RD Web via ADFS and Web App Proxy (WAP), so I created Relying Party Trust on AD FS with identifier https://ourportalsite.com and I created 2 preauthentication records on WAP. One pass through record for RD Gateway and one ADFS preauthentication (https://ourportalsite.com) record.

The thing is when users try to log in to our portal site they will first face ADFS log on, then they are redirected to RD Web where they have to log for a second time and if users do not insert our portal site in trusted sites in IE browser they have to log in for the third time when they click on pulished Remote App.

Is there any way to get this thing to work by signing once on ADFS?

Theoretically seen, I have been authenticated once so it should be possible to use sam credentials on RD Web and even further on.

Any suggestion, help, would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Regards,
adi

RDS 2016 RemoteApp – Orphaned session

We seem to have new issue developing with multiple users now reporting the problem.

It seems very similar to the many RemoteFX issue that have been experienced over the last year and wondering whether a recent windows 10 update has caused this.

Connecting directly to the users computer the remoteapp seems to be running but nothing happens visually when trying to use the app/no reaction to mouse or keyboard input.

At the same time, shadowing the app from the backend, it look to be running normally.

If we Control the session is can be used normally but nothing we do is being relayed to the client. To them the app is sitting on the same screen as it was when it stopped accepting input.

It is like RemoteApp clients has lost its connection but still thinks its connected; very weird.

We are within Azure so there are factors such as Accelerated Networking and Azure Load Balancers but just wondering if other may have seen this behavior of late.

No UDP enabled when connecting through RD Gateway

scenario 1: I can connect from a win8 client directly to a 2012 RDSH server and see that UDP is enabled in the connection status.

Scenario 2: When I connect from a win8 client and force the client to use the RD Gateway to connect to the same 2012 RDSH server the connection status shows that UDP is not enabled.

The network setup is all internal even when testing the RD Gateway.

The RD Gateway has the UDP transport box checked and is set to the default port 3391.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

RDS not visible to domain admins

Over the last couple months, we have been building new 2012r2 terminal servers, and getting a strange interaction with Remote Desktop Services. We seem to be able to install it fine, but then when we try to use it in server manager we get:

"A Remote Desktop Services deployment does not exist in the server pool. To create a deployment, run Add Roles and Features Wizard and select the Remote Desktop Services installation option."

We have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but that doesn't change anything, and there were even a couple times when it wouldn't let us reinstall. One suggestion we found online was to use an account that was a local admin of the server, but not a domain admin. When we did that, it was visible, and we were able to add the license. Even after implementing this "solution" there were a couple times where it would say the license was accepted, but continued to warn us that the trial license will expire soon. With that part, we were usually, but not always, able to fix it by selected Per User cals a second time. Another issue with this "solution" is when we use that account that isn't a domain admin to install RDS, that account then gets the same errors as the domain admin accounts.

So what we have been doing is installing RDS in the Add Roles and Features with a domain admin, then deploying remote desktop services instillation and choosing quick start on the server with the local admin that is not a domain admin, and basically applying the license twice before it is accepted. We would really like to get it so that we can just use the one domain admin account to manage everything again, as this "solution" continues to cause other problems.

RDP scaling not passed Windows 10 to Server 2012 R2

$

I have a Windows 10 client and a Server 2012R2 server. The client is set to 1920x1080 at 125%. In the past, whenever I connected via RDP, the session automatically went to 125%, regardless of the resolution (I sometimes use 1024x768, or other resolutions), just like it is supposed to. In the last few weeks, it has suddenly stopped doing this. I've tried different accounts, making sure I logged off the Server session (not just disconnected), changing the resolution and magnification on the client, and trying different Server 2012 R2 servers. Nothing works. I really don't want to do some of the manifest solutions that others talk about.

It is almost as if an update to either the server or the client has broken this.

Is there some way of diagnosing this? Is there a log of the connections, that would tell me what the client says it is, so I can see if the client isn't reporting the scale factor, or the server isn't paying attention?

Does anyone else have a suggestion, or is anyone else noticing this issue?

Thank you.

Flickering RDP Server 2016

For some time I have been investigating flickering both in our 2012 Terminal severs and now the same thing in our 2016 Terminal servers.  I know that flickering problems are well documented around various forums and help portals but every suggested fix has done nothing for our situation.  Here are the fixes so far that have not worked:

Group Policy:

Always show icons, never thumbnailsEnabled Always show menusEnabled Display file icon on thumbnails Enabled Display file size information in folder tips Enabled Display simple folder view in Navigation pane Enabled Display the full path in the titlebar (classic folders only) Disabled Hidden files and folders Do not show hidden files and folders Hide extensions for known file types Disabled Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) Enabled Launch folder windows in separate process Disabled Remember each folder's view settings Enabled Restore previous folder windows at logon Disabled Show drive letters Enabled Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color Enabled Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items Enabled Show preview handlers in preview pane Disabled Use check boxes to select items Disabled Use sharing wizard (Recommended) Enabled

HKEY_CURRENT\USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{031E4825-7B94-4dc3-B131-E946B44C8DD5} on user logon.

As I have stated none of these have worked.

Here is a video of the flickering:

Surface users being asked for Creds when opening apps via RemoteApps

Hello,

We have a couple of users in IT using Surface pro's.

When connecting to apps via RemoteApps they get a security pop up....

"The Credentials that were used to connect to "Server name" did not work. Please enter new credentials.

It has the correct user name already. and if i enter the password then it connects fine.

If connecting to apps on a windows 10 or windows 7 laptop we get no security pop up the app just opens up as expected.

It's only on the surface.

Not sure why this is just happening on the Surface?

Flickering of Icons on the Desktop

$

Hi there,

I have asked this question many times before as we seem to be experiencing some problems with icons flickering on the desktop on our RDSH Servers.  It started way back in server 2012 and since upgrading to server 2016 we still have the same problem.  The flickering occurs on the local LAN and from remote locations.

What have I done so far and it doesn't resolve the situation:

1.  Ensured that bitmap caching is turned off.

2.  dword NoRemoteChangeNotify.

3. Always show icons, never thumbnails

4. Enabled Always show menus

5. Enabled Display file icon on thumbnails Enabled Display file size information in folder tips

6. Enabled Display simple folder view in Navigation pane

7. Enabled Display the full path in the titlebar (classic folders only)

8. Disabled Hidden files and folders Do not show hidden files and folders Hide extensions for known file types

9. Disabled Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) Enabled Launch folder windows in separate process

10. Disabled Remember each folder's view settings

11. Enabled Restore previous folder windows at logon

12. Disabled Show drive letters Enabled Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in colour.

13. Enabled Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items.

14. Enabled Show preview handlers in preview pane Disabled Use check boxes to select items Disabled Use sharing wizard (Recommended) .

15. EnabledHKEY_CURRENT\USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{031E4825-7B94-4dc3-B131-E946B44C8DD5} on user logon.

16.   RDP client version is current and up to date on all client devices.

As I have stated none of these have worked.

Here is a video of the flickering:

https://photos.app.goo.gl/EvNp8jHLG2Z6Hsjh6

Quite frankly I am completely lost about this situation.  On normal services servers which maybe one or two people connect to the problem is not there.  With servers that have many connections it is there.  This also occurs regardless of the OS you are connecting from.

Many thanks in advance.

directx3d problem about remoteapp srv

$

hello,

When I deploy a remoteapp server under Windows Server 2012 r2, after the RDS server is deployed, DirectX can be used normally when I login to the server locally, but when using another windows server 2012 with rdp8.1 protocol, I login to the session server remotely, using dxdiag command, and find that only Directx3d is enabled. Directxdraw acceleration and AGP texture acceleration are not available.

Gpedit. MSc > remote session environment: configure remotefx, optimize visual experience when remotefx is used, optimize visual experience for remote desktop service session, use advanced remotefx graphics for remoteapp, configure image quality of remotefx adaptive graphics, configure remotefx adaptive graphics, and use hardware for all remote desktop service sessions Default graphics adapter.

All of these have been set up.

I have deployed another server successfully before, Directx3d function can work, but this one can not work, there are hardware differences between the former using NVIDIA Quadro k4000 graphics card, the latter using NVIDIA geforce GTX 1060 graphics card.

is there any omissions in the deployment process?

thanks.

while launching RemoteApp it is freezing

Hello All,

I am expecting a little help from you. I have RDS installed and configured with Trusted SSL using 15 Session host servers and 1 broker server and 2 (Gateway, RDweb, and License) server. All the user workstations are on Windows 7.

Currently, we have published the RemoteApp on the RDWeb and whenever the user tries to launch the RemoteApp it just spins forever and after we kill the RDP from Task manager if we relaunch the RemoteApp then it is launching fine.

I tried

!. "Computer Configuration/Policies/Admin Templates/Windows Components/Remote Desktop Services/Remote Desktop Session Host/Remote Session Environment: Use advanced RemoteFX graphics for RemoteApp – Disabled"

2. unchecked the Local resources -drives for the Collection.

Both the tries were not successful. I'll need to know what is the exact solution to my issue. Since this is a behavioral issue I don't have much knowledge on this where to look.

Could anyone please give me a suggestion.

I tried on Windows 10 workstation and see this when I launch the RemoteApp.

While spinning it says

1.initiate remote connection

2.securing remote connection

3.configuring remote session

4.securing remote connection

5.configuring remote session then keeps spinning at this step until I kill this from Taskmanager.

Since I have a trusted certificate that is not the issue. this is happening only sometimes not all the time so I really do not know where to look.

Pls advise

Thank you
