Windows 2019 RDS issue

$

Hello,

I recently created a 2019 Standard server and purchased 100 2019 User Cals for RDS.  I have several 2016 server clients.  When I run the licensing diagnostics on the 2016 server, I receive two errors:

The Remote Desktop Session Host server is in Per User licensing mode and No Redirector Mode, but license server xxxx.xxx.xxx.org does not have any installed licenses with the following attributes:
Product version: Windows Server 2016
Licensing mode: Per User

and

License server xxxxx.xxxx.xxx.org cannot issue licenses to the Remote Desktop Session Host server because the "License server security group" Group Policy setting is enabled.

It was my understanding that RDS licenses were backward compatible--checked with several different Msoft documents.  In addition,

I have looked in both local and domain gpo, and do not see the referenced GPO enabled.

What also bothers me is that there is no Session Host configuration tool as in previous version--I need to make my changes in local GPO, such as specifying the license server.

Anyone else facing these issues?

Windows 2016 RDS Error 0x800703E3 when copying from Windows 10 to RDP session

We are connected to a Windows 2016 RDS server using Windows 10.  Any time we try to copy a file from a connected drive that is passed through in the session it causes the session to disconnect for about 10-15 seconds and then it will reconnect and shows"Error 0x800703E3: The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request."

We have tried changing SMB settings, disabling RemoteX on the RDS server and changed the RDP client to use limited bandwidth.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

RDWeb: can't connect, RD Gateway server temporarily unavailable

Hello everyone,

We are having the "can't connect, RD Gateway server temporarily unavailable" on RDWeb, only when accessed externally. Internally, the same external URL works. Server 2016.

This feature was working externally some time ago and we are not sure of what exactly broke it.

BPA's only warning is:

"The RD Gateway server SSL certificate must be configured with a valid certificate subject name

Severity: Warning

Problem:
The Remote Desktop Gateway (RD Gateway) server Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate may not have a valid certificate subject name.

Impact:
If the RD Gateway server is configured to use an SSL certificate with a certificate subject name that is not valid, users cannot connect to internal network resources (computers) through the RD Gateway server.

Resolution
Use the RD Gateway Manager tool to select a valid SSL certificate for the RD Gateway server to use."

We have tried other certificates and the result is the same. All other certificates are also ok, they are valid and were made from Let's Encrypt.

Any help will be highly appreciated!

Had to uninstall my RDS services and reinstall. When I try to change the WorkSpace name through powershell I get this error.

Set-RDWorkspace : Failed to update the workspace on RD Connection Broker server RDS.DOMAIN.COM.
Error: Exception calling "Put" with "0" argument(s): ""

+ Set-RDWorkspace -Name "My Company"
+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    + CategoryInfo          : NotSpecified: (:) [Write-Error], WriteErrorException

Any ideas? I am running powershell as admin.

The connection can not proceed because authentication is not enabled and remote desktop requires that authentication to be enabled

Hi,

I have Active directory domain with more than 200 windows server 2008 r2 and 400 windows 7 consoles joined to it.

I have made some changes in remote desktop security settings via group policy suggested by the security auditor.

The changes are:

1. Set client connection encryption level- High

2. Require use of specific security layer for remote (RDP) connections- SSL (TLS 1.0)

My all the Servers/Workstations are working fine after applying these settings, but in 1 Server i am getting this error "The connection can not proceed because authentication is not enabled and remote desktop requires that authentication to be enabled" when the policy is applied.

This particular server is Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 VM Guest machine hosted in VMWare 6.0.0 Host. I have 50 more servers with same configuration as problematic one.

Can anyone help me resolve the issue, why the error is coming in that specific server and not in all other 199 servers.

I tried some troubleshooting steps suggested for the particular error:

1. Open regedit.msc and change "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp "set“SecurityLayer” to a zero.

2. I joined the server again to domain to refresh the configuration.

But nothing worked.

How to perform a Remote Desktop license downgrade?

Hi, what is the process to downgrade a CAL for Remote Desktop?  I'm looking at purchasing Server 2019 user CALs but the vendor is saying I will then need to "access downgrade rights" to use these with Server 2012.  Thanks.

Remote Desktop Deployment second RD Web Server

Hi all,

Currently we have 1 RD Web Server, due to the fact that we are testing new MFA software we have to install this on the RD Web Server.

Does anyone know if it is possible to have 2 RD Web Servers with one running on a different URL?

RDS 2016 session hangs when monitor goes to sleep on W10 clients.

Hello guys,

We consistantly encounter this effect on Windows 10 machines connecting to Windows Server 2016 Terminal Servers using the RDWEB gateway. When the client screen turns off the monitor to save power and the user comes back and presses a key, the last thing on the screen of the RDS session is displayed and everything is frozen for a good few seconds before displaying the login screen of the Terminal Server. Very nice when people are doing back transfers or paying salaries.

This only happens on 2016 Terminal Servers when connecting through RDWEB and using a W10 client. Domain joined or not, it does not matter. Nothing is displayed in the logging of the RDS host, gateway, broker or client.

Also, this is not a limit by the Terminal Server policies, the auto logoff after disconnect and auto lock times are set to at least 10 minutes while I can reproduce this after 1 minute when setting the screen energy saving settings to 1 minute.

Can someone please point me into a direction? I seem to be the only person on earth who can consequently reproduce this. Also, we know that simply locking your session is the way to go, especially when leaving sensitive data on screen but you know how users are.

We have updates all our servers and W10 clients (1809) and have this on multiple, totally different locations using totally different internet connections, locations, policies etc. Nothing fancy but a simple RDS deployment and some Office apps are everything they have in common.

RDS WID Dependency

Hi Microsoft,

I hope that someone can shed som light on this topic because I was not able to find the answer nowhere on the internet. I understand that RDS needs WID when we have single broker. But when I implement Broker HA and move database from WID to SQL server and when I go and disable WID rds services stop working? Why?

Deploy Web Client with Session Hosts in Sub Domain

Hello there!

Tha last couple of days I created a Lab-Environment with 1 DC, a Remotemanger with Gateway, Licencing and Broker Role installed and a Session Host. After a little Troubleshooting everything worked great.

After that I created a second DC and a Subdomain and a second SessionHost as well. The Second SessionHost (SessionHost2) joined the Subdomain. I managed to add the SessionHost2 to the Remotemanger in the rootdomain and installed the Sessionhost Role.

At that point, I'm pretty much stuck. My users from the sub domain can connect via Web Client without any problems, but I can't open any apps from my collection. I get this error pretty much constantly:

2019-02-08T09:40:41.703Z Connection(ERR):

The connection generated an internal exception with disconnect code=ConnectionBroken(8), extended code=<null>, reason=WebSocket closed with code: 1006 reason: Thrown in thread 396952 at: websockettransport.cpp(330) Call Stack: at Rjb at Ojb at rp at Ugd

Now I tried pretty much everything I could think of. This all happens in the same Subnet with Windows Firewalls turned off.

Is this some kind of missing priviliges of the Subdomain-Users to authorize against the remotemanger in the root domain? Or is there a general Problem with a remotemanger in another domain as the session host?

For explanation: Iur company wants to offer hosted services in the future and wants to make sure, that different customers absolutely can't establish any connection to another company's hosts. If there is another way to acomplish that I would be very happy.

Thank you very much for your interest and input !

Migrate roaming profiles to user profile disks

Hi,

I need to migrate about 450 roaming user profiles to user profile disks. I'm working on an upgrade project RDS 2008 to RDS 2016.

problem: custom .net program can only opened once per Terminal Server

Hello,

We have developed a .net program that is usually usable within a TS environment.
Many of our customers with a single TS 2012R2 are using this program with multiple accounts at once with no problem.

Now we have one customer with a couple of dozen Terminal Servers with the following problem:

As long as two separate accounts are logged on to two different Terminal Servers, each of the accounts can start and use the program without any problem.

As soon as both accounts are logged on to the same Terminal Server, only the account, who opened the program first, can use the program; When the second account tries to start the program, nothing happens.

Unfortunately I don't know much more.

I did some tests already and was able to reproduce the problem using a Server 2012 (non R2 and without the TS Role) and two RDP sessions.

But in a Server 2012R2 with the TS Role installed I could not find any problem with multiple users using the program at the same time.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

thanks in advance

RDS – Internal error – Windows 7 only

Hello,

Last week, the RDS server (W2012) experienced connectivity problems. Each RDP connection attempt (working fine the day before) generated an error“An Internal error occurred”.

Every connection icons have been created from scratch to solve to issue. Then, it worked again, except for Windows 7 workstations. No problem with Windows 10 PC, but all Windows 7 generated the same error : “An Internal error occurred”. Even for Admin account.  Except if mstsc is started in console mode (and using a domain admin account).

The Remote Desktop role has been uninstalled and reinstalled from scratch, and the CAL have been reinstalled. Without any result…

Nothing in the Event Viewer (on server and PC).

Do you have any idea to solve this problem ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Getting microphone to work in Server 2012 RDS

I think I've read all known articles on this and still cannot get my microphone to be detected in RDS.  Please help.

I have applied the following GPOs to my RDS farm:

  • Enabled "Allow RDP redirection of other supported RemoteFX USB devices"
  • Enabled "Allow Audio recording redirection"
  • Enabled "Allow Audio and video playback redirection

I have amended the local registry of my servers:

Computer\HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-TCP\fDisableAudioCapture =0

ALSO:

  • Desktop Experience is installed.
  • Windows Audio Service is running
  • Windows Audio Endpoint Builder Service is running
  • Using RDP v.10.   Settings has "Record from this computer" enabled.
  • I am using Windows 10 professional.
  • I have Microsoft LifeChat USB headphones plugged into my PC.  Sound and microphone work fine locally.
  • Sound works fine inside RDS with my headphones.

I just cannot get my microphone to be detected.  It just says "No audio devices are installed".

Please can anyone help?

Thanks

Windows Server 2012 R1 RemoteApp is bugged with Windows 10 1809 clients

This issue occurs with Windows 10 1809 Client RemoteApp -> Windows server 2012 R1 Session Host

- Open a RemoteApp

- Within this app, you open another Window (Popups or similiar)

- Close the popup

- now the originally opened RemoteApp Window wont give up focus, that means I cant get other local windows in the foreground. I have to manually close or minimize the RemoteApp window. (This doesnt happen with all popups though)

I recorded a gif here: https://imgur.com/ncrREJY

You can reproduze this every time, by publishing Adobe Reader DC as a RemoteApp -> after opening the RemoteApp on a W10 1809 client, search for updates -> close the Update Popup -> now the Adobe Reader DC RemoteApp window wont give up focus, I have to close it manually

I asked other people and everyone can reproduze it.

I know not a lot of users are still on server 2012 R1 but maybe Microsoft will still do something about it

Hi,

We are facing an issue when enabling RDS services on a new Windows 2016 Standard Server as seen below.

Tried removing the role and then doing the installation again after restarts and still the same error.

Enabled TLS 1.0 which i saw in another newsgroup was causing this error but still didn't solve for me.

Appreciate, if someone can help with this issue.

Server 2012

I have a server farm consisting of a broker, three rds servers etc

I want to have my domain groups/users control which users are allowed access to specific servers.

Example: a xxx_admin group will be routed to server 1; xxx_sales group will be routed to server 2 etc.

I'd like to do this all with domain user/group configuration.

Thanks for the help...still pretty new to this.
