RDS Collection member allowing direct connections - does not require collection/farm name to be used

$

0

My setup is using a Server 2019 server as the RD Connection Broker and two Server 2016 servers as the RD Session Hosts. The roles and settings have all been configured through the RDCB's server manager menus. I am using a user account that is not a local or domain administrator to test, but has been added to the allowed users/groups for the collection.

One of the RDSHs works as expected - when trying to use that server's host name, instead of the collection name, the message pops up informing me that I cannot connect to that remote computer and must use the farm name. The other RDSH allows connections using that server's name or the collection name. It does not allow users to connect that are not configured as members of the collection's allowed users/groups.

Scratching my head as to why this other server is allowing connections without the "/admin" flag using its the hostname. I reviewed the setup in server manager, and the registry and didn't find anything that indicated the configuration was incorrect. The registry settings match what is setup from server manager.

How to do I add Remote Apps into a folder on Rd Web Access

Hello,

I have published multiple remote apps where users can see all remote apps on one screen. I would like to add few remote apps into a folder but I see only known apps like work, excel, remote desktop connection are moving into the folder not the one I published using the batch remote apps.

Do anyone know how to move other remote apps into the folder. I used the same method for other remote apps in the same collection. Please let me know if there is another way.

Thank you,

Cannot logon to Second Collection - RDweb

So here goes:

I have an RDSH 2016 deployment up and running.  Gateway - License server, Broker, RDSH Session Host

I have one collection set up with a single session host.  All users can log into it successfully using RDWeb.

I added a second RD Session Host and added it to the first collection.  Again all users can connect.

I removed the Session Host from the first collection and added it to a second collection.  They are both remote desktop collections.  Both have the same configurations.

I can RDP from the RDSH1 machine to RDSH2 no problem.

Both collections show up in RDWeb.  Collection 1 works.  Collection 2 launches correctly but then I get the dreaded:

Enter your credentials

username@mydomain.ca

Password:

The logon attempt failed.

Anyone have any ideas.  there are no errors in any of the event logs.

Disconnected login question

Good afternoon,

I'm perplexed.  I have set the settings to remove disconnected sessions and on some servers it seems to be working and others it doesn't.  All servers via RSOP have the settings being applied.  What am I missing?

Integrated windows authentication RD Webaccess 2016\2019 using firefox

$

Enabling windows authentication in IIS for the RDWEB and Pages webapp results in the following error when using Firefox:

Error loading stylesheet: Parsing an XSLT stylesheet failed.

Using Edge/Internet Explorer and Chrome results in a working rdweb page.

Firefox does present a authentication prompt so the IWA seems to be working. To make sure the issue isn't being caused by systems or software on our clients, I've installed the firefox browser on the rdweb server itself and tested rdweb with IWA which resulted in the same error.

I've tried changing the user agent string of the browser to make sure that wasn't the issue but that didn;t seem to help.

When using Fidller to troubleshoot this further, prevents the issue from happening. I'm stumped.

Using form based authentication seems to work fine.

Has anyone run into this behaviour or could point in me the right direction to get this to work?

Using VDI for DR Solution on 2016

We have 1 DC and 1 File Server.  Initially I was going to spin up a dedicated server in OVH Cloud with p2p VPN and create a terminal server on the dedicated server and in a disaster I could restore the File Server and DC to the cloud server and I could allow 5 users to access resources and applications via the terminal server.

The problem I ran into is the application we use does not support this kind of environment because session data for the application is stored in the c:\SessionData folder and each user must have their own directory.  So VDI seems like a better alternative.

The problem is to keep costs down I wanted to just use one dedicated server.  and just have 3 virtual servers. DC, FILE and RDS.  what can I get away with regarding putting as many roles on a server as possible?

Example:

Virtual DC, Virtual File Server (RDS Roles), VDI all on a single Hyper-V server?  VDI on remote cloud server across p2p VPN and when failure occurs I restore the File and DC to the cloud hyper-V server?

I only need 5 users for VDI

Hi,

i am having a strange problem, can`t RDP (logon through console is ok) to Windows 2008 R2 server though one of two IP. One IP is ok (the server has two NIC`s). The error is "The connection was denied because the user account is not authorized for remote login". Although user is a member of Domain Admins group that is not removed from Remote Desktop Users group.  Thanks for any ideas.

User cant connect to RemoteApp unless in admin group (cross domain)

Hi,

2 way trust with domain in another forest working fine, can add users to groups ect.

Domain A user1 and is a member of a group called ALIVE

Domain B has RDS and group called RDSLIVE

ALIVE is a member of RDSLIVE

RDSLIVE has access to remoteapp, is in the RDS policies and RDS works fine for local Domain Users from Domain B

but user1 still cant access RDweb, except when I directly add user1 from DomainA to the Administrators group on DomainB, then the user can access it fine.

As far as I can see DNS is working without any problems, both domains resolve eachother (the trust is validated) I can add security permissions to folders on any DomainB computer and even RDP to domainB when i give the correct permissions, however DomainB just doesnt seem to pickup the fact that user1 is a member of RDSLIVE via its membership of ALIVE, even if I put user1 directly into RDSLIVE it still doesnt work.

Anyone have any idea what I am missing?

Thanks

Windows 2019 RDS Farm - Window Shadows

$

Hi,

I am in the process of building a new 2019 RDS farm to replace an aging 2008R2 one. I am at the point where i am ready for the UAT however i am having problems making a change apply to all users.

The problem is that the visual effects are set to not 'Show shadows under windows' which is making it almost impossible to see where one windows ends and another begins. I know this will be a problem in the UAT as the users have made similar complaints when first using the current farm.

I can switch the shadows back on fine for my user, however i cant seem to find anywhere to set this for all users across the system. The last thing i want to do is have to enable this setting for each user (~300 users) on their first login.

Is anyone aware of a group policy which can be applied to have this option set as default? I have read multiple articles online, but they are all geared towards Windows 7.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Niall

KB4503294 affecting Wyse 3040 thin clients only in RDS Environment (Serv 2016)

$

Also affects Wyse Thin Os 5070 - but NOT older T series thin clients or original branded Wyse Clients

Before anyone asks - Yes I have a case open with Microsoft, and Dell. Both are pointing the finger at each other and we're going nowhere.

After My posts on patch Tuesday where we determined that KB4503267 was killing Wyse 3040 thin clients (And only wyse 3040 thin clients) we've now determined that KB4503294 is causing this also.

Configuration example:

A single Remote Desktop Connection is configured. The hostname is pointing to internal hostname of server e.g. remote1, and the use TS gateway setting is checked, with the TS gateway pointed to gateway.contoso.com

Symptom: When a user attempts to login the login window on the thin client disappears for a moment and then re-appears

Event log does not show anything useful or conclusive either on the thin client or Windows Security log. All windows security log says is "error during logon". I'll add a complete extract as soon as the box comes back up.

I'm at a loss (And so is everyone else apparently) as to why only the dell 3040's are affected. Even the earlier Wyse T series thin clients are fine and Microsoft can't give me any answers nor can Dell

On Server 2012 we found that Preview updates KB4503295, KB4503277, caused this.

Edit: I previously typed that KB503886, KB4503865 affected this - That information is incorrect and these were not installed on the servers impacted this morning

We also found that non preview updates KB4503263 AND KB4503276 when combined caused this issue.

I was also able to confirm that this affects firmware version 8.6_024 & 8.6_013

We use a Windows 2016 terminal server and connect via RDP. At irregular intervals the forwarding of client hardware stops working. No more drives are mapped, the printer redirection does not work anymore and the com ports are not forwarded anymore.
After a server restart everything works fine again.
What could be our problem?

Hi,

We're having some trouble with our license server, some users has multiple RDP CALs and using more than 1 license, 1 for each capital letter-lower case change in the name when creating the RDP connection, for example, user1 has 4 licenses (user1, User1,USER1, useR1).

Can you help us?

Remote Desktop Not Connecting to Session Hosts from certain networks

$
0
0

If I put the IP address in of the Remote Session Host server (there is only one) it works. It connects through the gateway and then connects and authenticates successfully to the server.

Also if I connect to another internal PC remotely on the network through the rd gateway using DNS name it also works fine.

Finally if I connect from outside the office network using hot spot it will resolve both the remote session host and remote PC by DNS name. If I switch it back to the LAN it reverts to orignal behavior.  I have seen this at multiple places.

There must be a different way it is connecting on one network than on the other network that causes this odd behavior.

Also  Remote apps through RD Web will not open after successfully authenticating through gateway ut will work outside of network.
