Is there a way to install test RDP Licenses to test if that's the reason we cannot connect? If it works, we will buy the licenses, but before we spend $500 I want to make sure.
Thanks,

Greetings all,
Can anyone please advise how to remove the Administrator / Super User menu that appears when you right click the Windows Icon (old start button) in Server 2012 R2 - for RDS users. I have searched and been able to disable access to each of these menu items (Control
Panel, Event Viewer, Run, etc). But I am searching for a way to completely remove the menu. This menu also appears when you use Win-X shortcut.
Hope someone can help.

Hello, using Server 2008 R2 and Web App.
The Web App part of terminal services is working. The application appears on the users Desktop as if it were running locally.
As part of the application being shown to the user, I would like to save a file on the user's system.
Is it possible to get the name of the user's computer from a .NET application running as a Web App?
If so, how?
Thank you

I have a remote app that I would eventually like to get to the point where everybody who uses it logs in with the same credentials. Right now I have some people using their own id's and others using a "generic" login. However, I am
seeing some issues with the app not properly launching; occasionally, the remote app program will start, and I end up with an icon stuck on the taskbar with no program in sight. However, when I check the server task manager, I usually have more
than one instance of the program running for that user. I've tried to be tight with the log-in controls to force disconnects when the app closes; my only solution so far has been to delete the user profile. This usually causes a normal app
launch the next time. Does anybody have a good solution for this problem, or even know if remote app can reliably be used like I am trying to use it?
Hello,
I am setting up a RDS/Citrix farm (on server 2008 unfortunately), and I am trying to limit who can have their local client drives mapped to their server session. I know there is simply a check box in their AD properties to "Connect client drives at login", but since accounts get copied all the time for new users, this setting tends to get copied along with it. I'd really love to just create a security group and only allow the client drive mapping based on membership in this group. Is there a way to accomplish this? I was thinking maybe via GP Preferences or something similar? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hello,
I am not sure which part of the forum to post this.
I am having a problem with remote web gateway on server 2012 R2
It works correctly internally
I can login externally and the login page displays the correct certificate.
When I try to connect to a computer externally it displays the certificate for our Exchange 2013 server complains about the mismatch and doesnt allow me to continue.
Any idea on how I can solve this issue?
Kind regards
We have an RDS Server Farm with three 2012 R1 Session Hosts, and a 2012 R1 RDS Licensing Host. One of the Session Hosts also has the Broker, Web Access and Gateway Roles.
Occasionally, when we go to Server Manager, Remote Desktop Services to check user connections, the Servers that were added are missing. In RDS Overview, we get the message: "There are no RD Connection Broker servers in the server pool." We cannot access any of the RDS settings or sessions.
In the past, we have added the Servers back and it seems to resolve the issue temporarily but it keeps happening.
Currently, the issue is happening to the RDS Licensing Server, and when we try adding the Servers back - nothing happens.

I use RD to allow my customers to run a custom app. My app is older and requires printer names to be less than 25 chars. I've given up looking for a solution to rename the client printer at logon and must explain to new customers that their printer name must be as short as possible. As you may well know, Server 2008 R2 add (Redirected ###) to the name of the printer and the only way I know to reset the Session ID counter is to reboot the server.
Is there a way to reset the session id counter through PowerShell, VBS, Batch file. etc??
Is there a way to remove the (Redirected ###) and replace with just (###)?
Anyone had any issues with outlook x64 2013 office and "PDF Preview handler", we are running adobe 11 with server 2012 R2. CHecked all the recommended reg settings are correct:
"Change the AppID value to {534A1E02-D58F-44f0-B58B-36CBED287C7C}"
However still prompted with "this file cannot be previewed because of an error with the following previewer: PDF Preview handler"
Also causes a popup box to say an internal error has occurred.
Loads fine when you double click the attachement.
Hello,
I currently have a very interesting problem:
Some (not all) printers show up multiple times on every user session on the specific terminal server. This behavior show up on both of the 2 servers. Also the printer only shows up multiple times under the control panel, but not in the printer dialog.
The users are not part of either printer operators, Administrator or Power Users.
The servers are Windows Server 2012.
I cannot find a reason for this after some hours with my friend Google.
Does someone have any idea how to fix this?
Thanks in advance

Hello,
I have a program installed on a 2012 R2 RDS Server. When I open that program and edit settings of that program I would like it that all users who log in get the same settings. How do I do this?
Thanks in advance
I have several servers running Windows Server 2012 R2. These servers are used for testing, and are members of a domain which has two DCs, each of which are running DNS Server.
Yesterday I noticed one of the servers was having an issue with its remote desktop connection. If I try remoting into this machine, it connects to a black screen, sits there for 2-3 seconds and then promptly disconnects. No error message is given. I tried this from a couple different Windows 7 machines, and got the same result. I tried from my wife's iMac, which runs Jump Desktop, and too was met with the same result.
I can, however, remote into this machine via RDP from my work-issued laptop, which is running Windows 8. However, I cannot remote into the problem machine via Remote Desktop Connection from one of the 2012 R2 servers--I am met with the same result as the other machines: connect, black screen for 2-3 seconds, disconnect without error.
I can remote into all of the other 2012 R2 servers without issue from any machine, including the iMac. I am experiencing this problem on one server only.
Since it is a test server, I reinstalled Windows from scratch this morning. This meant formatting the SSD and wiping everything out. I reinstalled the drivers, joined the server back to the domain and installed all of the updates available from Windows Update. And rebooted. And yet, the problem persists!
I tried troubleshooting the "usual suspects," like turning off Windows Firewall, disabling antivirus software (currently none installed), disabling IPv6, setting a static IP instead of using DHCP, etc. I did notice the network adapter said it was on a Network, not a Domain Network. I corrected DNS settings, and the network reidentified itself as being on the ParietalBone.net network. And yet, the problem persists. Remote Desktop to this server still yields a black screen for 2-3 seconds, followed by a disconnect--EXCEPT from the aforementioned Windows 8 machine.
I looked in the TerminalServices-LocalSessionManager log on the offending server, and there are no errors. I only see repeated entries that say "Session X has been disconnected, reason code 12," where X is 1 or 2. On a couple occasions, the reason code is 11. But I don't see any errors indicating a breakdown in security negotiation.
Without any robust logs or debug details, I'm at a loss of where to look for a solution.
Has anyone seen anything like this?
After many, many, hours of wading through and eliminating potential variables the issue has been narrowed down to being present with a Windows 8.1 VM and not on Windows 7 VM.
The problem is with glitchy display issues (Random Pixellation, Fuzzy Screen areas, Entire Screen filled with random shapes/colors etc.).
This is a Server 2012 R2 environment it is running Hyper-V Remote Desktop Virtualization Host.

Hi Everyone,
I am running Terminal win server 2008 standard R2 SP1 in which 10 remote desktop per user CAL's licenses are installed before I joined in the company. Now I am asked that company has purchased only 5 licenses and we have installed 10 licenses in our server, at the time of server installation some third party vendor did the server built and rest 5 of the random licenses installed by him. Now I have to see the license key's to match them with our purchased key's by our company and rest I will remove from my server to avoid any audit related problems.
How can I see them?
Hi,
I have a 2008R2 DC and a 2012R2 RDS server with a trusted domain from another organisation. The permissions on the collection work fine, IE I can create a group in our AD, add the users from the trusted domain and then add the group to the collection. If the user is in the group then they can add the applications to their RemoteApp features of their Windows 7 desktop, they see all 12 apps that I have published.
However when I try to restrict one of those apps to a single user in the edit application properties for user assignment, for example it will be an admin tool that only some users should be able to use, it doesn't seem to work. Anyone in the group for the collection can still see and use the app, and new users that I add to the group still download all 12 app icons in the collection.
I cant find any errors or log files that would cause this, it is as if I havn't added any restrictions for the app at all. Is there anything I can look at that would help me find out why the user assignment part is not working?
Thanks
Carl
Hello All,
I have a new issue that has come up for one of our clients, and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on how to get this configuration correct.
Our setup, Windows Server 2008 R2 standard is the RDS server. HP thin clients with Windows XP are the clients. We are using a medical app through Remote Apps. In the medical application, there is a place that needs a signature. We have a signature pad attached to the computer through a serial connection. When looking at device manager, it is connected to a COM port, not totally sure what number.
Through a citrix session, the serial device works into the remote app. When we do the same thing through RDS remote apps, the serial device does not work, namely the signature pad does not take down a signature.
Things we have tried. We (another tech at my company and I) have logged into the RDS server through RDP. On the options, under local resources, we have checked pass serial connection and usb devices. We have looked for a driver for the unit, and cannot find one to install on the server.
RemoteFX does not look like a valid way of setting this up, as these are XP computers and only have RDP version 6 installed, and cannot upgrade to 7.
We are very much at a loss on how to set this up, and at this point it is holding up a project to get rid of Citrix and go to remote Apps through MS. Any suggestions are helpful. As this is a client site, we cannot always quickly try the suggestions, but will always update this thread when we do. Thanks in advance.
RDS installed on 2012R2 server as single sever.
Users can connect to the website via IE and run remote apps, but when the URL is used in the RADC connector the connection fails with "The URL you typed does not have a connection." I have checked the URL is in the form stated in the connector.
Browse to the URL in IE and can see the connection text...Any ideas!
In my excitement setting up our RDS server using Server 2012 R2, I installed 25 RDS User Cals in Device mode by mistake.
There are now more than 25 devices registered and when users connect on a new device they get a "Remote session was disconnected because there are no Remote Desktop client access licenses available for this computer" error.
RD Licensing Manager shows 25 licenses installed ' RDS Per Device CAL'
When I 'Manage Licenses ' and run the Manage Licenses Wizard this gives the option to 'rebuild the license server database which will delete the installed licenses. you will then have to re-install those licenses'. I can then choose a number of reasons. I will probably choose 'The RD licensing database has become corrupted'
I will then install the licenses again
My question is, will all the people who connect to the RDS using the RDP files we have deployed be able to connect without error?
If anyone knows this would help me plan my week!
