RDP-GW: AD-Group scope issue

$

Hello,

I'm using these groups:

  • in domain.tld is a local group "RDP-Users" wich allows access to the RDP-Server and the RDP-GW (both server are in this domain too)
  • in sub.domain.tld is a global group "Department A"

I can connect to the RDP-Server directly with a user from sub.domain.tld. This works as expected. But if I try to use the RDP-GW, I get an error that the user has no permission to use it. If I convert the scope of "RDP-Users" to universal it works. The same happens, if I add the users from sub.domain.tld directly to the group "RDP-Users".

Why can't the RDP-GW handle the permission if the group scope is local?

Dennis

Windows 2012 R2 - Intermittent RDP Printing

$

Hello!

I have built a Windows 2012 R2 server with Remote Desktop Services running on it.  Remote users are having trouble with inconsistent printing through their RDP clients.  Their printers show up as redirected printers and do print sometimes, but other times nothing prints - the user click print, select their printer, and nothing shows up.  Later it will just start working for them again.  The problem seems to be universal - it is happening on clients with different versions of Windows, different printer models, and different printer manufacturers.  Has anyone seen this?  Are there any hotfixes for this that I can install?  I have all of the latest Windows Updates installed.

Thanks... Dave

Windows 10 Pro reboots spontaneously after logging in with Microsoft RDP client

Note: I think this is a duplicate of Remote Desktop Connection - PC will restart in one minute . As that topic was started as a RDP client issue, I would like to report it as a server issue.

Since recently (last 2/3 weeks) I'm having spontaneous reboots on my Windows 10 Pro PC when RDP-ing into the machine. My PC is usually 24x7 turned on and I connect several times a day to it. After a reboot, it's stable again for a few days. It appears to happen more often when I use the Microsoft RDP app for Windows 10 Mobile.

After the successful login via RDP the windows users (connected by german internet/dsl) get a blank black screen

Hello,

we have "Windows Server 2012 Terminal Services" in use.

Working in our high speed lan is ok. But we have an external location many miles away which is connected by the normal internet (dsl).

When the staff log in by using "Windows 7 Remote Desktop", they get a blank black screen after successful RDP login.
No icons, no task bar or something else, nothing.

The colleagues get (before that) the Windows TS's feedback that login was successful, so authentication works.

We tested the colleagues' accounts by calling the Terminal Server using our company's lan, everything OK.

So the Active Directory works, authentication works too.

Is it possible that the low connection speed (normal german dsl) is the reason?

But how could it be? Is this logical?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards

Thomas

Missing information: which ones of these are sent to servers by WSUS?? All?? Some?? None??

Please elucidate. I also commented in the blog too.

Thank you, Tom

Discovery of installed Windows 2012 RDS license details?

I have a server that shows two separate 5 license Windows 2012 RDS User CALs in the RDS Licenser area. I know that one of the sets of 5 is from volume licensing; the other one I'm not sure where it came from. Can anyone tell me if there is a way to recover the license/agreement id for the 5 rds user cals? There is a tool called Microsoft Volume Activation Management Toolkit which is supposed to tell you what's installed on a server, I've not tried it, but I also don't see in it's feature set that it would show this kind of detail re the installed licenses. Or would it? Any other suggestions? Both sets of 5 rds user cals show open licensing.

Hello,

Is there anyway that we can get an extension of the 120 day trial for remote desktop services. We are doing testing and now are unable to rdp into the server before we commit to the licenses. What are our options besides going ahead and purchasing licenses without testing?

TIA

RDS 2012 R2 - certain password generates browser error "Server Error in '/RDWeb/Pages' Application"

I have found that since trying a certain password logging into the Web Access for RDS 2012 R2, an error is generated.

Sign in either as with domain\username, or upn, and using the password ")<bJKq<5" without the quotes, doesn't report wrong password but instead gives this error:

It's not the ) character because deleting it I still get the error.

If I delete the first < character and leave everything else the same, I don't get the error but just get a invalid password return.

simultaneous connections Gateway RDS 2012 R2

I have a question regarding gateway connections. So I have one 2k12 R2 server with RD gateway, connection broker and web access on it. I plan set up a second server to load balance gateway/web and also HA for connection broker.

Currently on the gateway, connections are coming as HTTP only on the gateway. Externally, I do not have UDP open right now. We have around ~250 connections going simultaneously.

I was going to wait till add a second server to open up UDP. Opening up UDP(3391) will triple the connections shown in the gateway.

Should I go ahead and open UDP now? or wait till I add second server to be safe?

Thanks.

'logon attempt failed' continuously from a Windows 10 machine connecting to 2012 gateway and Remoteapp

We have an issue with windows 10 connecting to 2012 remoteapp servers. This is an issue with ONLY one windows 10 user so far. This happens with any user trying to connect from that machine. The user can login to RDweb just fine. When he connects to the app, it will just pop up with 'login attempt failed' security dialog box. The behavior is similar as to when you have a windows 7 box without the latest RDP version installed.

Has anybody seen this before from a windows 10 box? I did notice that the user is on a 'public' network. Should I change it to private and have him try again? That doesn't make much sense though because the traffic is going out. Im thinking its some policy or third party app blocking RDP.

Could I be missing something here? Profile issue? Firewall? Antivirus?

User is on windows 10 with RDP 10 supported.

Is there a log file for RDP connections?

RDS Farm and RDP 6.3.900 client issue "Internal error has occurred"

$

I have an issue that when users try to log in through the RDWEB to our published app or through the "Remote desktop tab" with RDP client 6.3.900  they will get an error "Internal error has occurred".

I have 3 RDSH in a farm configuration, 1 Broker and RDGateway/RDWEB.

Our fix right now has been to remove the following patches (kb2574819 and KB2592687) from the client machines.

All servers are fully patched, Windows server 2008 R2 Datacenter.

Any ideas? I am able to replicate the same issue with an identical setup on our dev environment.

2008 r2 RDP Gateway and connection Broker on same or different server

Hi expert.

my boss wants me to setup a 2008 r2 TS gateway as well as setup a 2008 r2 TS connection broker.

the idea is to have users from the internet hit the TS gateway and then redirected to our 2008 R2 TS farm.

we currently have only 1 2008 r2 termainl server setup. I want to add a second 2008 r2 Terminal server and create a connection broker to provide some load balancing

My question is actually a design question

Should I put the TS gateway and the connection broker on the same server

or

should the TS broker be on a separate server

internet ..........> TS gateway.........>connection broker...............>TS or Session host server1 and Ts session host server2

or

internet..........> TS gateway & connection broker............>TS or session host server1 and TS session host server2

Also do I need a separate Connection brokers server or can I install connection broker and the 2nd session host server on the same server.

any info on the correct design would be appreciated..

thanks

Server 2012 R2 Essentials RDS not issuing licenses for connections.

$

I am operating a Server 2012 Essentials and I cannot get my 5 user RDS CAL licenses to issue.  Here are the details:

I have installed and configured the TerminalServices and Licensing roles to work without a connection broker or gateway as per https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2833839

The licensing Diagnoser shows that everything is in order, no errors or warnings, 5 licenses installed and available in per user mode.

I can connect with RDS internally and externally, however I am limited to my 2 administrative connections and no licenses are ever showing up as issued.  The third connection gets the option to disconnect one f the prior 2.

The only error reported (once per connection) is: Remote Desktop Services has taken too long to load the user configuration from server \\XXXXXXXX.XXXXX.local for user XXXXX

I have searched the forums for similar issues with no results.  I have also rebuilt the server, reinstalled the services from scratch with the same results.  If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated!

How I can secure my RDS CALs before trying migration?

Hi guys!
I have a few problems :p
First one is a problem with the creating reports of my RDS CALs usage. Error is something like that "Fail generete a report" - nothing more...
In the event viewer I found information about the ancident. The ID of this warning is 4108. I check my DNS server but looks normal. I can ping localhost, my ethernet card and others computers, so I don't know what is going on...

The second I can't backup my system state and RDS data files because my system files is NTFS and I got an error "The reqested operation could not be completed due a file ststem limitation".

With both of these issue I'm afraid migration. I don't have backup and if DNS works badly the license server could not find new serveror even worsea problemoccursduring thetransfer :/
What should I do?

@ I'm still learning English :x
